Have fond memories of the fishing and hunting down there. I lived in Las Cruces from 1970 through 1979. Caballo and butte were a blast. Walleyes, bass, and the spring white bass run.. Love the dove and quail hunting, deer and my one lone elk trip in the Gila. Trout fishing in mid summer in the mountains couldn't be better. Caught some really nice browns (20+") up near Ruidosa. And the duck hunting at Caballo in the fall--outstanding.

Smells: yeah to ALL that! You know what you’re talking about. White bass should start up soon… and that can get crazy good when you find ‘em. Used to hunt quail and duck a lot in the 80s just outside of Las Cruces.
