having seen the post about using bananas as a bait I thought about some of the "unusual" baits I have used over the years. one that I used often later in the year (as a 12 year old) was when I ran out of worms I would gut a sunfish and use the intestines like worms. I also tried an acorn cut in half, caught a pickerel on it. wondering how many other unusual items have been used by you guys.

I have heard of using a Bud Beer can with hooks working! One does not know to the limit of what a hungry fish will go. Just Sayin...RJS

I was using worms when I was a kid and catching bluegills and ran out of worms, started digging around and found some white roots, figured why not and actually caught some on them! Go figure

There was a kid up here years ago that ran out of bait and used a piece of tea berry chewing gum to catch a huge musky

I never used them for bait, but I caught a trout once that had 6 cigarette filters in its stomach.

I've used oatmeal creme pie dough balls for bream and crappie.

Funny you say that about the Dove gut I also have done that when we were dove hunting down south in Blythe when we were kids hunting with my Dad and Grandfather after the dove shoot and fish the canals , for Catfish.

When I was a kid, Dad was planning to go out for catfish. He filled a jar with chicken guts and left it in the shop. Can't remember if it was there for one week or two, but the smell was WEAPONS-GRADE!
The good part was that no one tried to horn in on the spot he was fishing in.
