I don’t know! Maybe some people think minnows aren’t fish.
That was a new one on me. I had heard the superstition on bananas though.
Have a great day Rapala
On a cruise ship you won’t see bananas out on the buffet. If you want one you have to ask for it

Wondering how many of you do not allow bananas on your fishing boat. I know there are some that strongly believe in this superstition. I know others that laugh at all superstitions
I take them if I want them, I’m Not Superstitious about anything. I know some that are, Good Luck Fishing or Hunting Hat, ect.
When chartering out of Whittier Alaska, I often had separate parties on the same boat, much like a head boat. I had one customer who became somewhat belligerent when someone started eating a banana. I took the banana peel, stripped each section into 1/4 sections. I then placed it on an 8 oz. jig head. Dropped it to the bottom and within a minute, hooked and landed about a 40 pound ling (a baby for that area). That was back when guides could fish in Prince Williams Sound. It ended the banana discussion. Side note: I believe in that location, we could have caught lings on canned tuna still In the can, so I am not recommending banana jigs or canned tuna as bait.

I have seen someone go berserk when he found out a banana was in the boat. I then took a fairly good size hook, attached the banana peel, a small weight and dropped it down. In less than five minutes I had caught a 30+ inch northern. I've done it several times and also caught a LM Bass on the banana peel.
This old wive's tale is complete hogwash!
Interesting info about why they did not allow bananas on sailing vessels, don't know the link but worth looking up. I would not hesitate to bring one for a snack.

I allow banana,s in the boat. But not
Crazy a$$ drunks fighting and puking 🤮 all over the boat But hot 🥵 chicks are
I mentioned the banana jig as not bad luck. It can lead to bad luck. At the lodge, we had 4 boats. My fishing buddy hid a banana in the cabin of my boat. It started to get ripe. I finally found it and got revenge. A hidden large herring hidden in a boat cabin is really bad luck.

I am not surprized there are superstitions about fishing as in eveything else. I have never heard any of them. Might be a interesting topic....what is it with bananas???
I have heard of it but not why Maybe because really big spiders 🕷 live in the bananas trees and in the stocks of bananas

Trust me. I would rather face a hostile fleet than face a few old wives.
Bananas in a boat became popular in 1876 when they were introduced to America at the Centennial. Guess how they Got here……in a boat!!
Almost got kicked off a charter on Lake Erie when I pulled a banana out of my pack.... Still caught out limit though.
