Well...Fred.... not sure where you got the idea that it was 'a young lady'.... have known several people named "Tristan", mostly through my daughter and helping with Boy Scouts, absolutely all have been male !
I suppose there could be some female "Tristans" out there, but let's not run off what may be our youngest member, by making any assumptions, either way.

But hey, now that I think about it, an acquaintance that owns women's apparel shop in Ashland, goes by Fred or Freddie......HER name is Fredericka, so..........???

We’ll I’m not offended at all. Grandpa taught me to have tough skin and great sense of humor. It would be great to be the youngest person.

Now that that's cleared up, what will you be targeting in the lake you're going to with your Grandpa?

The simplest way to catch Trout, stocked I presume, is Powerbait. Either ON the bottom with a sinker, or below a bobber, set depending on the depth of the water.
Bass will hit all the lures mentioned earlier, but one of the simplest setups is a Texas Rigged unweighted "Senko" style stick worm,on a 4/0 EWG worm hook. I use Yum Dingers, in Green Pumpkin, Watermelon with red flake, or my most recent favorite, June Bug. With the hook point buried in the worm it's weedless, and with no weight it sinks slowly. Let it sink to the bottom, twitch it a few times, give it a couple cranks and repeat. Keep your line tight, and feel for one to pick up the worm, when you feel weight , set the hook. Good luck, and don't forget to post pictures of your catch, the lake or whatever. We love pictures! Tight Lines!

Well, Fred knows a female Tristan, so what do I know ?
My Dad's best friend was a big burley guy named Carroll.
And as Maxx pointed out......my ex-wife and I had a blast showing a VHS tape of "Airplane !" to her dad "S.L."......whose given name was Shirley Lee ! His father was "Shirley Bryce" !! My exFIL thought that line "and don't call me..." was hilarious and said "where was Leslie Nielsen when I was a kid , huh ?" And there's another "either way" name.... Leslie.
Of course the most prominent (and cause for questions, after the movie) "either" name for me was always "Ashley", as in Ashely Wilkes in "Gone With the Wind". I remember giggling in the movie house that played "oldies", that my Grandmother had taken us to, and got pinched on the arm by her & told to "shush now, I'll explain later". She knew that I had a crush on a little girl in my class named Ashley !

Well Tristan, sorry we stole your thread to discuss your name rather than your fishing questions, but it happens. Here on the forum, get used to the thread "straying" from its original topic, again, sorry.

I looked up your Lake Brydenburgh and it appears to be only 6' deep, so not sure what fishing opportunities might be, this time of year.
Good luck, & welcome to the forum of easily distracted folks !

Welcome Tristan, if your trying to learn to catch bass. Use the search feature to look up recent posts from Ivey and BenBragg both have recently shared very specific instructions for a variety of bass techniques.

Great to have some young blood here! Tons of great info I learn something everyday.

Thanks J I’ll tell Grandpa. We’ve have actually been fishing salt water fish off the piers on Long Island Sound. We also go out on charters but, unless you spend a lot on a all day charters you’ll get Porgy and way to many Sea Robin. One day Grandpa an I are going fishing for big fish in the Gulf or off Key West.

Tristan it seems like you and your grandfather have a great relationship. Hope you both catch a ton of fish! Enjoy your time together!!! I only have one grandpa left. They are a treasure.

That said in joining this forum you just got 50,000 step grandpas. Most the guys are older here but they’ll take great care of you. I’m 45 and considered a “youngin”.😂🤣😂

Yes Sir, My Grandpa is cool. He said if I learn to fish I won’t ever get bored. That is the reason I joined here so I can learn what lures to use and how to use them
