Plumbob and ranger632, I hope everyone is paying attention to your comments. Air is the most neutral thing on earth until it starts moving, becoming wind, and attacking objects and water. I've been in a few life threating situations (slow learner), and for the last 20 or more years I have missed a lot of nice fishing days when the forcast was for marginal conditions. In the long haul, I'm not complaining since I didn't risk drowning or another heart attack.

You are so right, more than once we have taken the kayaks for just a pickup ride.

Sure beats a ride in a Coroners rig.

I have definitely taken boat to coast and it never got launched. Back then I could hook several keepers on a dock if too windy to fish by boat. Keeper Sturgeon in Columbia in Astoria Oregon. We just take same gear to 6th street pier.

Gls, you mention " marginal conditions " and missing out. Seen quite a few of them myself to the point i gave them a 1 - 10 rating. 1 was i can get out there and make it to a safe location. 10 was would not even attempt it in a boat.

The Oh Sh** factor was always when out on the water and conditions changed. One can't predict what mom nature decides to do at any given time, just need to be smart about it when dealing with the unknown.

Bottom line is fish will be there tomorrow, i want to be there tomorrow as well.

Not boating, but I used to do some SCUBA diving. All week long, I'd hear from others the ocean was pretty quiet. When the weekend came around, I'd get up at zero-dark-thirty and drive an hour and a half to get where I'd planned to dive. Dang it, just about every time the ocean would be so rough that even the surfers wouldn't go out in it!

Rain is good. It may bother some but it is fresh water.
