I am in the process of trying to purchase a 70 or 80 lb trust used Minn Kota trolling motor. I realize that I will need two 12 volt batteries to power these 24V units. I like the AGM concept but wondering what others use or would recommend. I can't afford Lithium battery or I'd get one of them. Trolling motor will be used a lot with Spot Lock. I probably fish about 6 hrs. per day and would like to purchase batteries that would last that long. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you are kayaking in salt water, it is a new world. Better to be safe than curse.

No Kayak. I have a pro V 17ft. Tracker boat that's 32 yrs. old that I bought new and completely restored and changed things around some for better fishing.

NEWPORT ELECTRIC MOTOR. Check their website out. They have an electric kayak motor, one at 1,8 hp equivalent and one at 3hp equivalent. 900 to 1200 dollars. I am saving up for one.

I use these on my kayak to power a MinnKota trolling motor and a Garmin fish finder. I can use the kayak for at least eight hours with the trolling motor running the entire time. Trolling and spot lock, and the battery still has more power to spare. I actually bought the set of two batteries. I couldn’t be happier with their performance. I highly recommend them.

QTY3 VMAX MR137-120 12V 120AH AGM Deep Cycle Group 31 Batteries for Minn Kota Riptide Terrova 112 w/i-Pilot & Bluetooth 36V 112lb Trolling Motor

They were purchased on Amazon.
I use these on my kayak to power a MinnKota trolli... (show quote)

You've got to be joking...3 group 31 batteries at 80lbs each and a Terrova 112...come on, a 55lb thrust with one battery would pull water skiers on a kayak. Make it a 120ah group 31 Lithium at 25lbs and it will last all day

Guru, I don’t know where that info about the 112 pound thrust motor came from. The motor on my kayak is the MinnKota Terrova Riptide 55 pound thrust.
I have since sold the kayak. It was getting harder and harder for me to fish from it all day. I had back surgery in January of last year and then again in March of this year. It could take up to 12 months for me to get fully recovered from the surgery. Once I’m healed up and cleared to fish again I’m planning on getting a 14’ to 16’ flat bottom Jon boat. I really like the modified vee boats. They’ll allow me to put a good sized fishing deck up at the front of the boat. I might even build some rod storage lockers down the sides of the boat.

I was just reading the most recent Fishermens magazine. A lithium-ion battery was listed at $2100.00. That is insane.
