I still use braided nylon squidding line with a mono leader on baitcasters especially in saltwater.. For bottom fishing, I tie a shap or swivel and clip it to my bottom rig. I tie most of my bottom rigs out of a strand of mono leader material using dropper loops.

For me it depends on the type of fishing that I'm doing.

Using 9' glass rods for catfish and drum it really doesn't matter if I use cheap or expensive braid. So I use cheap 20# braid and typically bottom fish with sinkers.

When using 5 different ul setups I try to use a little better braid. Simply because the better braids tend to cast the 1/64th OZ jigs further/more accurately. 4/6/8# 8 strand braid is more sensitive than the cheap counterparts.

The other consideration is the ul setups don't use a lot of line. A 600yd spool will easily fill all 5 ul reels with line to spare.
