BK now days mindless days have taken in a new meaning. I got a bit older n I started sneaking paps single shot 22 rifle. One store would sell ammo to kids. 50 cents a box. I'd get the money turning in pop bottles. Grab the rifle run out the basement door end of backyard up the alley n into the woods. If I would have been caught doing that I would've been standing up to eat for a month 🤣🤣

Gruz, you n me must be twins, except that for me it was a 12 guage Lefevre and I was allowed since I checked out fir safety with my Dad on an old trash can. I was around 11. He had enough with guns from WWII in the Phillipines, but he didn't mind me hunting. Guy next door taught me the ins n outs of shooting bunnies.

Some still use those down in the Fl. Keys. Called hand lining.

Wow. Some really good stories here. We didn’t have any water close so had to wait for the weekend when dad was off work. Then it was an old 202 and a heavy fiberglass rod. Brings back a lot of memories

Brother and I built a raft out of every piece of old lumber we could find, and I don’t know how many nails. One day we decided to put her afloat. We didn’t plan on the current carrying down stream so far. Our parents found us about 6 miles down stream and was pretty pi$$ed!

We could be. An uncle took me deer hunting one time when I was 16. Bought a 410 bolt action from him shortly before going into Marines. Mom gave it back to him while I was in boot camp. He sold it n I never got my money back. Fall of 68 I bought my rifle n shotgun. Brother I luvd small game n bird hunting. Can't find a place to hunt anymore. Most farms are surrounded by developments. Luvd hunting groundhogs. Same thing no room for shooting. Have a ñice evening brother 💤

Early morn, slight mist in the air, standing to see the swirl in the water, and no cell phone to their ears.

No matter if it’s a high price rig, a Walmart special, or even a rod called an Ugly stik. Just want to get out there and become one with the environment.

Yep, that is PASSION.

What was the simplest fishing gear you used at one time?

A piece of fishing line with a hook on it. No rod, no reel, no stick, nothing. Just a piece of line with a hook and a piece of worm. Caught one crappie right after another over the side of my boat. Nothing over about 8” but bunches of em.

That's why I don't hunt much any more. Those whistlepogs were hard to sneak up on. With that old Lefdvre you had to get close.

I used shotgun pistol 22 30/06 then got a 223 n a 22/250. Now no place to take the long range shot. I use appropriate weapon for area 👍👍

Cane pole with Dacron line and a Mustad hook. Fished with earthworms dug up in the back yard. First reel I ever had was the Zebco 202 on the cheapest rod I could find. Uncle started carrying me with him when I was about 5 or 6. Aarat River in Mt. Airy, NC.

My father cut a tree branch, bakery string and an open safety pin. Because I had a soda bottle ( two cents deposit) when he went to get ice for the icebox (1944) I got 4 hooks for two cents.

" bakery string " Haven't heard that term since i was knee high to a grass hopper.

Bet that string would be good for crabbing with a chicken neck.

I'm guessing that's not Middletown in Frederick county. I'd luv to try more than 200. Club talked about taking it out to 300. Instead the put in competition steel target range.

Gmon Plum A stick some string a hook n a worm. Mother didn't want me near the water. Thought I'd fall in n drown. I'd sneak out. Then my pap took me. Left me use his collapsible octagon shaped metal rod with the old Dacron type line hook n worm. The day I bent the rod I thought he'd kick my butt. He didn't he knew it was n accident. I can still see that spot by the creek in my mind. Would luv to relive that day just one more time. I still miss him. 😊

I still have a steel octagon telescoping pole from my childhood. We put line on it that my uncle got from American motors. They used that line to sew the seat fabric together. I was fishing with braided line in the 60s. When we weren't fishing we used the same rod and line to fly kites. That felt like a fish it was alot of fun back then. By the way that line is still strong to this day.
