I’ve been fishing for over 50 years and have never used braid (except on old cane poles as a kid). Does it work on spinning reels? Pros/cons. Does it backlash as much as i see it on casters? Thanks in advance for any answers

Hi PS, yes it works on spinning reels. Just don’t overfill the spool.

hey Sam,went w braid this past season on my spinning gear. I went w 12 & 15 lb w no issues casting & not one problem w backlash.
Only con is u have to learn to tie new knots,YouTube & 10 minutes you'll be a pro at tying.
Best of luck

I may also switch some to a lighter braid just for maybe some additional distance

Go for it Pap. 12 lb is my go too on 3 Penn reels. Just tie on a Fluoro leader with a uni knot. Doesn't backlash and just don't over fill the reel.

Thanks a lot. Sounds like a good snowy day project to switch several reels over

Fireline was my braid of choice. Comes in different colors. Some guys swear by the red i liked the darker colors myself.

I’ve been using braid on my baitcasters and spinning reels for 3 years now. I started using spider wire easy braid but didn’t like it. After awhile the line starts to fray. I switched to power pro 15 pound on spinning, 30 pound on baitcasters and solved that problem. Tie on a 6-8 pound fluorocarbon leader with a double uniknot and your in business. Like everyone else said, don’t over fill the spool.

Papaw, you’ll be amazed at the advantages with braid, longer casts, better sensitivity etc. A lot of people that use it tie straight to their terminal tackle but I almost always use a fluro leader of about 6 feet or so. Along with a uni knot another choice is the Alberto knot which is quite easy to tie and also strong.

1/8" or lower is my recommendation.

I have used it on all of my reels since it came out, what 20 years ago. Make sure you have a rod with good guides on it or they will grove, use a flora, leader, fish seem to be able to see it. It has broken a few rods because of its strength. Keep the rod straight if you have a snag. The sensitivity is fantastic, well worth the whore house price that it will cost you. Good luck.

About the same price as a 1000 yds. of braid, I would guess. Can't say for sure.
