Pile Worms are great but pretty convenient to just go to beach and seine the sand for sand crabs. Funny thing those there has been a debate whether the soft shell ones or hard shell ones work the best. I personally don't think it matter.

2 things to start. 1 the grand kids are on the coast with it. so no pics.

Like this one.
I cut the lip off at an angle. About 45 deg. I removed the handle to use later.
I used an AL ski pole . Cut the tip off and pounded the end inch flat. Fastened to bottom of cut off pitcher. Flat to bottom w 1 small bolt and U bolt near the top.
Formed and used the flat handle for a brace,
Then leaving about 1 1/2 in. solid at the mouth went nuts with a 1/2 drill. Did the bottom some just don't weaken too much. Clean off the sharps.

Guys , you the dust or dirt panhandle thing you might use at home or outside ? Very cheap and already formed and made of cheap metal, if you have the time to drill a bunch of small holes on the sides and back and a few on the bottom just to drain, you have your personal sand crab seiner with a handle , been doing for about 35 years, try it you'll like it !😊

I personally like the soft shell ones.
Here’s a trick that I learned about.
Get some water boiling and drop the sand crabs into it, when they float to the surface they are done. They will be soft and a little pink. Read about it in a fishing magazine.
I do this when we go camping at the beach.

First thing I wanna say it was the prettiest day for January out on the beach caught 11 surf perch kept three I will try to post a pic

I was just north of bodega bay I was using sand crabs live ones and I did catch a few on the gulp sand crabs I bought at fisherman’s warehouse they worked pretty well
