Was out there a couple weeks ago but the ocean was pretty rough and we just caught 5 little ones.

I go off the beaches and use sand crabs/fleas or squid.

I made one of these. https://www.amazon.com/RTG-Aluminum-Water-Scoop-Detecting/dp/B01LX79QFT/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=metal+detecting+digging+tools&pd_rd_r=55ae8ff7-8510-4775-af2e-83da2bad21fe&pd_rd_w=V0mpX&pd_rd_wg=4Am3n&pf_rd_p=4fa0e97a-13a4-491b-a127-133a554b4da3&pf_rd_r=9YZ4T1J675X0ST0SHEJK&qid=1642707996&sr=8-12
A pot and ski pole . About $5 at a thrift store. Saves the back and time.

Good Idea!!! Usually just use a trout net but as a senior I appreciate not having to bend over....lol

Yeah, the ground is farther away than it used to be.
And when I try to get back up, I find that gravity is stronger now than when I was young.

Used to surf fish for Perch all the time but not in the last 20 yrs. All those are good bait but the best bait I used for surf Perch was Pile Worms, if you can get them. If there are Perch in the area you are fishing, Pile worms are a guaranteed to catch bait.
