When I get a message notifying me of something like that with a number to call so that I can sort it out, even if it really looks legit I investigate in other ways before calling the number. I'll open another browser window and log on to my account, and look there for any odd transactions or messages or alerts. If there's nothing there, the email I got must be a hoax. If you want to call your bank, look up their number and use that - not the one in the email.

As far as getting a phone call .....if THEY called YOU, then you have no way of knowing who's really on the other end. You can have confidence of who you're talking to only if YOU made the call and you didn't get the number from an email that the scammer sent. Tell the caller "I can't talk right now, I'll call you later. I have your customer service number." If they're legit, they'll be OK with that. If they try to keep you on the phone anyway, it's a big red flag.

The bad guys know how to spoof the caller ID so that it looks good, but they might be calling from Vanuatu. Heck, a couple of times when my phone rang, I looked at the caller ID and it was my own number! That scammer wasn't too hard to spot!

And never say "yes". They can record just that word and insert it into a recording that makes it look like you've agreed to something. When they say "Can you hear me alright?" the best answer is "I can hear you" or maybe just the click of being hung up on.

Be aware! I have received two emails from what looked like an official Amazon site. Telling me it was time to renew my Prime account, but the credit card on file had expired and I needed to fill in a new card number.
Only problem with this is that my credit cards have not expired and.....I don't have an Amazon Prime account!

I got this email at 10:25 am. Thinking it may be from T-Mobile because I was expecting a print out I pulled it up. I came up with what appeared to be official Norton LifeLock. It said $299.00 had been changed to my debit card to renew for another 2yrs. I've never had life lock so thinking someone may be using my card to pay for their security. How ironic would that be. Call this # if I wanted to cancel. I did it came up Pikesville MD. Near Baltimore MD. # was unavailable. Called credit union cancelled debit card n called Capital one to check. Lady at Capitol one said if you get n email like that make sure your full name is on it. Most phishing only has your email address. Be careful Y'all. Hackers need to be hacked n not electronically πŸ‘

99.9% of the time when they say your account is being cancelled, it is ALL BS. Don't open or at least don't contact, they are waiting to get you. Let me tell you about a scam. A scammer once sent out a scam that claimed to be able to 100% predict what stock to buy to make money. Don't remember the numbers, but they were huge. So he tells the prey that he would give them free stock buy info and proceeds to tell 4 million the name of the stock and suggested it would go up and another 4 million that it would go down. He discarded those names where he was wrong. Then he sent out an email to the "winners" and did the same thing about another stock and threw out the names that were "losers". Now he tells the remaining 2 million "winners" and says I have proved I can predict when a stock that will gain and solicited them to invest with him and those who were "winners" both time actually invested with him and he WON. i all the time get emails saying my account in a particular bank is being closed and I need to contact them. They send this to millions and a % of those people will actually have an account with that bank and will be the actual targeted.

I received the same email--didn't even bother to open it. For some reason I have received a large number of emails in the past week offering me loans, refi's, exclusive offers, etc. Not sure why--I haven't submitted my info or filled out any forms recently. Must be the new year.

Top scams that I get
Renew my car warranty. I don't have a car warranty, never did
Your subscription has been renewed. Never had that in the first place.
Due to the recent storm, let us inspect your roof for hail damage. Insurance will pay for it and your neighbors are doing it. I don't recall that storm and if my neighbors all jumped off a bridge I would not.
Your computer has been compromised and others can see your information. Let's cut to the chase, I'll give you my SSN and we can be done.
There is a problem with your AT&T account. Call us back so we can resolve it. The AT&T account I don't have?

First, Don’t use Debit Cards. If hacked, lost or stolen, someone has access to your bank account. CC is preferred. Second; Stay away from Capitol One, higher interest rates, Fees and poor customer service.

That's a test ping Marian. They want to know if the number is good before they try to use the data.

Clappy I've always had good service from them. My card was compromised in a big business hack. It wasn't used but they notified me n quickly got me a new card. Like anywhere some good some bad. I retain a low limit on my card. πŸ‘
