My Daughter Sherri had to take her 19 year old Australian Shepard on that final trip to the vet this morning. She has been failing rapidly since Christmas. We are all going to miss Molly dearly.
Have any of you had a pet that was particularly hard to say goodbye to?

I’m sorry Marion to all your family. Absolutely I have. We had Ginger a Boston Terrier that was mother-in-Law’s that is the latest one. When I was a kid I had a Dog named Mindy because my sister had a cat named Mork right after Mork and Mindy show had started. Went to vet and found out it had distemper. Well it killed both the cat and dog. We had gotten them both from a pet store next to my aunts hair salon in Simi Valley. They hadn’t had their shots. So I figure it’s like those that avoid getting vaccinated are like comparing what happened to our pets.

I got to dig the holes for both of those pets as a kid. I still remember hearing the song by Barry Manilow on the radio driving with my dad and my dying dog home “ I made it through the rain”.

It's the last thing you can ever do for them. And yes it hurts.

Ourspirits are kept bouyed by our three remaining little ones, Fergie 915 Bichon), lucy(5 Bichon) and Misty(12 Shih-ts.

None of them have been easy but the hardest was our second Akita. We both agree she was the best dog we ever had.

Ivey can tell you about a really good dog or two he had. He should be an outdoor writer.

It's a very hard thing to do, Marion, I feel for Sherri, please give here my regardes. Most all of my dogs were working dogs, Coon hounds, labs, German Shepards. The German Shepards were kill dogs for the hounds. It saves on the hounds and they love to do it. If you are a client, the vets around here will put pets to sleep and get rid of them for nothing. No dogs now, only my bird killing cat. She is a working cat too, she keeps all of the mice, voles and chippies in check. She was a farrel cat before she was tamed, now she is an innie/outy cat that doesn't like heat, cold, rain, snow, or wind. So, she is mostly a innie cat in the Winter. If she wasn't such a good mouser, she wouldn't be here.

Yes ! In our third year of marriage the 'ex' and I had a beautiful chocolate-brown, long-haired kitty with big, beautiful gold-green eyes - he was friendly, smart and funny, so we
named him Buddy !

We kept his litter box outside on our enclosed (2nd floor) porch - one day we left to run errands and later
realized we hadn't left the front
door open for him to access it - no worries, as he didn't leave us any 'surprises' on our wall-to-wall
carpets ! Instead, we found one
little poop sitting on top of the
shower drain ! (Good kitty !)

Another time, he waited in the bathroom sink and ambushed
my wife by jumping out at her
when she went to the bathroom
at 3:00 AM - she screamed loud enough to wake me and the lady downstairs from us ! He also loved
to play 'fetch' with his superball !

Shortly after we moved from that apartment, he got loose for a couple
of days - a few days after we got him back home, he started getting really sick so we brought him to the vet - we were heartbroken when we were told that he'd gotten feline distemper from some other cat in the neighborhood when he got loose and that we would have to put him to sleep ! He wasn't even three years old, yet !

I won’t have any pets without vaccines ever again. It’s unfair to them. I feel same about humans. Medical Reasons are only legitimate excuse for avoiding them in my opinion.

Love and pain are not a straight line but a circle that circles and circles again. Always turning always yearning and churning tears and love.. A forever memory never ending the true definition of meaning.
