I did that a lot when I had my big boat in the salt. Took a lot of mostly non fishing friends, and tried to give them a good experience. We had a in shop Bluefish tournament one year, 6 guy's from work with boats, and their chosen crews. I had 2 nonfishermen, and 2 freshwater guys on my crew. We cleaned house, taking all 4 prize categories. It was a very $ rewarding day, and bragging rights for a year.
I would love to spend a day on the water with you OBG, as well as most of the regulars on the Stage. I'm hoping to accomplish that after retirement, at least as much as I can afford to.

Now that is a good looking boat Fred. All my ocean boats were much smaller.

Well you are always welcome to go fishin with me Fred, and I am sure we would have a great time. Who knows, maybe I can talk the wife into coming up your way in the next couple of years. Actually, I am planning a road trip this summer and working on some details to fish with JB up in Montana. Maybe stop by and fish with Saw on our return trip. Not getting any younger, so best be doing it now while I can.

Thanks OBG, it was a fun boat. I do miss waking up in the marina at sunrise, and heading out to the Sound. Hopefully I'll only be here till next winter, then you'll find me in South Carolina, or traveling around to fish with some of these guys and gals. I'd love to visit JB and experience the untapped Bass potential he's got out there, and Saw and NorCalSteve go without saying. All it takes is money,LOL

99% of the people I've taken out over the years offer to pay for gas, bait , or whatever. Normally I tell them only bring whatever you want to eat, and drink (no alcohol on the boat), and any favorite tackle if they have any. My logic is, I'm going out anyway, so gas and gear will be used whether or not they come with me.
If you want to split costs, either let them know ahead of time, or choose better friends , who are more appreciative of your expenses.

I do miss the ocean, first 50 years of fishing was out there. Best part about it was you almost always saw something new and different. I also have a close friend whose son is a fly fishing guide in Livingston, Mt., and he is going to take me out on one of the rivers. Really looking forward to that. My only problem on the trip is to find something for my wife to do while I am out there with the guys. I am making a big assumption that most of the people on here have really good spouses and the little lady could spend half a day with them sight seeing. Of course Montana is beautiful everywhere.

I have a BIL that lived out there for a year or 2, and the pictures he shared were awesome. As far as the wife goes, she'd probably say, Have fun, see you when you get back.LOL.:-)

I seldom fish alone anymore. My wife has gotten into fishing and we spent a lot of our summer fishing together. And I love it!

That said, I miss fishing alone. Do what I want for AS LONG as I want. I hate to leave! There is a bit of pressure and a lot of responsibility when you have another out with you on a boat. Solo I can really relax and unwind!

Exactly. I don’t give up easily. When the boat has a canopy and it gets a little drizzly the tunes are on the suds are cold. And you know the rest of the story. No sense in heading for boat ramp early. I just enjoy sticking around

Most of the time I fish by myself. Many reasons I do fish alone. In my circle of friends not many of them fish and the one or two that do. Will only fish for walleye. My favorite to fish for at home is the smallmouth. I love taking my grandkids and my three daughters. By the way the daughters can fish with the best of any fisherman. The problem with them is they don't live close. We do get to fish together when we can.
Don't get me wrong. I love fishing with other people. I just don't mind and enjoy fishing alone. I can do what I want. When I want and as long or as short as I want. I fish some lakes that are a seven-hour drive from home. Unless my wife goes with me, I go alone. Have invited others but nobody has had the time. I fly to Alaska by myself and salmon fish. I have made many friends there in the past nine years and seldom fish alone. But if no one is around I fish alone. I will only travel to Alaska alone also as do most of my friends there do. We have even talked about it. If you come alone, you get to do whatever you want.

I been up there too. I went alone but had a house project that I had to start for a friend. We did a bunch of the excavation and concrete to get the thing started and he paid for my flights. I was in Palmer for 3.5 weeks in July. Had a blast. I fished the Deshka a few times. The Russian. Byrd Creek and a few other places . I want to go back. My spouse doesn’t want to go fishing but let’s me. I’m addicted to Ocean Fishing. I usually go about once a month here in Oregon out of Depoe Bay. I fish a lot in Willamette and Columbia in Spring. Nehalem Bay in fall.

Looks like a blast Fred. I’m retired. If you ever are in west I’m here. I go on Charters about once a month in Ocean. It’s safer and cost effective. A limit of fish and crab for about 100 bux is less than towing boat. They know where the fish are too. I do plenty myself too but the Charters here are worth it.

I know what you mean. It sounds like they just think you can afford it. I never expect anyone else to pay my way. That’s a bummer. I would invite whoever their buddy is but tell them you’re boat runs on Gasoline or Diesel not on Thanks.

You know the old saying “ gas grass or bass well unless she is good looking let’s say gas grass or something else.

I have some friends with more money than many of us will ever have and I never not once took advantage of that fact. I have always been invited to go with them. They know I will always pay more than my fair share.

Hopefully I'll get up there someday Jeremy. The crabbing especially gets me excited.

Haha, I had the original version of that sticker on the back fender of my old Yamaha 750. Whenever the girls wanted to ride on the back, I'd just point to it. It worked most of the time.

Where do you fly into Mike? I'm retired military so I can hop a standby flight anytime there's room and there are regular flights out of Travis AFB to Elmendorf in Anchorage. Possible that we could meet up? Let's talk about it?

The crabbing is the easiest too. Can even do it off of docks. Crabbing is best in winter. Months with R.

Bric and Wife came out. I caught a few the first day they were here we had a few really fun days. It’s really cool when a guy has a lady that wants to go fishing for their anniversary and even doesn’t mind hubby having other people around. Really cool people.
