No school today, too cold? I was like ? I don’t remember getting any days off just cause it’s cold. So I just went out to the truck to get a cigar I left in it. Sweatpants and T-shirt just be a sec, well not as tough as I thought I once was…-10 with good wind blowin feels like -31 so yeah I felt it…..looks like fishing March/April?..

To be fair I also took garbage bags out and niece-in-law didn’t make it to the driveway, hair still wet from shower, and her hair froze…

I am with you. I never had a day off due to the cold. Too much snow, yes…but rarely. I grew up in Milwaukee and had to walk at least a 1/2 mile to Elementary school and over a mile to HS. No, it wasn’t uphill (both ways) while carrying my brother because we only had the one pair of boots to share 😂
Nowadays the busing situation has to be considered as it would not be safe for the kids if the bus got stuck, or broke down in the cold.

And if it's cold enough the buses won't start. It is brutal here today. Temp dropping and wind is blowing like stink. I think I lost more hair outside today. I'm sure you're feeling the same OJ.

Or kids waiting at bus stop….we’re at -31 wind chill but I remember -30 without wind chill had some folks die in town…still got my mind on fishing. Picked up two royal express ambassadeurs for $15 yesterday and looking at cutthroat oar blades for the drift boat

I've got a Royal Express Shutup. I use it on my Topwater rod, for Buzzbaits, Spooks, Ploppers, and Frogs. Love that reel, I've had it since the '80s.

Got one 1990, buzzbaits mostly, these two don’t look used much, great shape. Took me awhile to get used to the thumb bar release back then, accidentally hit with hooksets, makes for a mess.

That's why I bought mine. I had a little Ryobi, with the thumbar, and got used to that. When I decided to step up to an Ambassador, the Royal Express was the only one WITH the thumbar. The rest had the sheetmetal button on the side plate. It will definitely spoil your day on any baitcaster if you hit the bar on the hookset. Fastest backlash in the west ,LOL.

Try bomb casting a 10 oz musky crankbait and having a hook completely penetrate the trolling motor housing during the most forceful part of the cast. !
Not sure what the line capacity on a Shimano Calcutta 400 is , but I backlashed every bit of it.
It was without doubt the most horrendous backlash I’ve ever had.
I had to cut off all the line.
It woulda taken 3 years to untangle that bird nest. !

That’s why I went to spinning rigs. I can’t cast as far but they don’t backlash hardly ever. I hated those backlashes especially when the fishin was hot. I too had 5000 and 6000 Ambassadors and then when the Ambassador low profile came out I bought one of them. They all backlash, especially into the wind, but I loved them when a nice old Bass, Red, or Speck hit. Nothing like the thrill of cranking those fish in.

I still use a baitcast whenever I can over a spinning reel, well worth the occasional “professional overruns”…
