The hunt, Anticipation, and excitement when the water explodes and It is “fish on”. Did I mention frustration and anger when she bust the top of the water fighting and , poof out flies my lure or the line breaks. 45 years of fishing and I have not yet land that baby. It always something and 99.9% of the time it’s my fault once again.
We've all been there!!

Welcome to the stage cat.
And with all the excitement..... nothing makes a fish seem so big as nearly being caught
Welcome to the Stage SC. Been there and done that, just gotta get back at it. Tight Lines!

Welcome Cat. I know your feeling.
Smelleycat: Welcome to some more of the aspects of the Fishing Forum. You are not alone with the experiences you have found frustrating. This is part of the game. It makes good stories you can share with other fishermen. If you haven't caught and lost some personal best specimens, you just haven't had as much experience as others! Just Sayin...RJS
The easy part is getting them to bite…once you found them😉
The hard part is getting them to the boat, into the net and then into your hand for the picture, or into the live well.
There are numerous things that can go wrong while the battle is going on as the line can get cut on a rock, wrapped around a tree or a pier. You’re trying to pull a fish out of his comfort zone (although some act as if they caught us and are trying to pull us in). It knows every weed and escape route.
So many things have to go right along the way.
The fun is in the hunt, and the subsequent fight with the fish once you have outwitted them. The work starts once they are on. The person with the net is also a key player in the scenario as many fish are lost in the last 2-3 seconds with a poor netting job.
This makes for great satisfaction when the fish is in hand for a picture and release, or into the live well, destined for the table (which, of course, requires more care and more work).

SC01... Welcome to the Stage. It's good to be humble enough to take responsibility for losing a fish. First time since I've been here that anyone put that in their initial post. Nice to have ya aboard !
When a fish is barely hooked by the skin on it's lip you can't blame it on anything but the fish, he wasn't
hungry enough

Welcome to the Stage cat I've had fish it seems showed me what fight he or she had right up to the time I was going to reach down to grab it look me straight in the eye and then spit my lure out at me
When I was 15 I took my 10 year old brother fishing. Had a nice bass jump off the hook just as he reached the shore. I whipped the water with anger and frustration and to my surprise snagged him on his side and hauled him in. ( I didn’t see him in the water)
My brother was impressed and asked if I’d caught one that way before. LOL.
Welcome smellycat. My daughter is moving to Tyler from Utah. I will be watching your posts. I want to get down there next summer and do some catfishing.

I've been upgrading my knot skills recently based on the same issues you have had!
