4.5 foot quantum microlight rod.

Favorite for most fishing.

Have a few with larger reels love hearing the line being pulled off.

That's cool OZ. I bought mine back in the early '90s, for catching snapper blues. It's a Zebco Microlight, with a Diawa Whisker Graphite 775 reel. I got a pair for Kathy and I to snapper fish in the Marina where we kept our boat. Now I use them for stocked Trout in a local pond. I figured I'd try one on panfish that are always bugging me when I'm Bass fishing. It was a lot of fun.

Lots of fun on those UL rods Fred, congrats on a nice meal.

Thanks OJ, but I let them go. They were kinda small, and I didn't bring my cooler.

Thanks Ed, no I didn't, I didn't bring my cooler with me, and they were small ones, so I sent them back to grow a little.

Caught an 8# flathead at the bottom of a crappie bed, it was bent just about like the picture.

That must have been a heck of a fight on that rod OZ. Got any pictures?

Great way to salvage a fishing plan! Too bad about the original destination...but what nice reward with those dandy perch! I've got to admit that next to crappie, that is my "go to" favorite edible fish...then comes walleye. Always deep fried in Drakes batter! Great post and terrific photos!

Thanks Yaker, I haven't eaten perch in years. We used to catch good sized ones, maybe 1-1.5 lbs. They were fantastic, filleted and pan fried over the campfire.

So I get to Beseck, and from the parking lot the water looks a little low. No problem, loaded the boat, and drove down to the ramp. Ut-Oh, it looks real low, lets try anyway. Backed the trailer off the end of the ramp, and didn't stop until all 4truck tires are in the water. Get out and the boat is still sitting on the bunks.Hmmmmmm, this isn't gonna work. Drive back up to the lot, unload the boat, and head for Zoar.
Launched at Zoar, and since I banged up my good prop last time I decided to stay within a mile of the ramp, and try not to damage my spare. Only tried a couple spots for Bass, with no takers, but nibbles from smaller fish.
Got out the 5' ultralight, with a pearl white 1/16oz jig head and a curly tailed shad. BAM! almost every other cast was attacked by Yellow Perch. Unfortunately they were pretty small, maybe 1/2lb for the bigger ones. I got 7 in the boat, and probably lost that many more. I was trying to get a JB style, bent rod picture, but every time I tried they got off. I had a blast with that little rod. Right before I called it quits I threw a couple casts with my medium, finesse rod. It felt like a Surf rod after using the tiny one LOL. After a crappy start, I had a ball. Much better than working.
So I get to Beseck, and from the parking lot the w... (show quote)

Nice pictures Fred, those panfish fight like demons on ultralights whether perch, crappies or gills. You must have had a blast.
