FF: You are well on the way to being a real expert fisherman. You didn't do like most newbies, and ask where the fish were biting. You are approaching it the right way, finding them for yourself. That is what you have to do, find them yourself. Later, you might share tips with others. Just Sayin...RJS

Hey Fred, bb says that instead of an anchor you put one t motor in forward and the other in reverse. Is that so? LOL

It might work without wind Plum, and if you crank both up, it might stretch the 14footer out to 16ft.

Hello everyone. I am not new to fishing but I am to boating as I recently purchased my first boat this past May of ‘21. I found a 1984 Grumman 12’ on Offer Up for $425 which came with a trailer and a 1954 Johnson Seahorse 5.5 hp, and it runs like a top. I put a little over 3 months work into her (sand, seal and new paint) and another trailer which was in far better shape and got both registered. Been out 4 times so far and love it. I decided to get the boat for the obvious reasons because of course you can go anywhere on a lake and fish plus I was tired of renting as that is a waste of money. This is my “me time” and do it for pure enjoyment and relaxation although I really miss fishing with my son who is married and serving in the Air Force. He was my fishing buddy. I live in Santee, CA and fish only fresh water so the local reservoirs are my stomping grounds but am looking to spread my wings and try others throughout the southwest region. My target fish are primarily bass and panfish but I am game for most any others except catfish as I have grown tired of them and no one at my house except me will eat them. I do like keeping my catch because I love bass and panfish. My primary baits I like to use are live, shiners and night crawlers but also dabble with Senkos and other bass lures, but only just started using those and have had success with the Green Pumpkin 5” Senko mostly. I am looking forward to hearing from others here and learning what I can and discovering new places and ways to fish. Maybe I can even share some of mine.

Looks like you did a great job on your boat FF. I fish a lot of the lakes in SoCal and my favorite down your way is San Vincente. Eventually you will work your way up this direction to DVL, Skinner or Perris. Good Luck and welcome aboard.

Heading to San Vicente in the morning as it has a higher speed limit allowance than does Jennings. Have to get use to the heavier, faster and much responsive 9.9. A little scary at the moment as it he max motor size for my little 12’ car topper and it shows. I will be going north for sure likely next year and checking out other lakes/reservoirs. Maybe we run into each other at some point.

Only in very calm water OBG. Having a deep V towards the bow makes it kinda tippy standing up front. Also if you try to reach down to the water to lip a fish, the closer you get to the gunnel the more she leans over. Not as well balanced as I once was.LOL.

Like I tell the young guys in work, when they're complaining about back/neck/leg/shoulder pain. Don't worry, it will get better when you get older,,,,,,,,NOT!!!
