The Wooley Bugger is a fine fly, but the pink squirrel is my go-to fly when fishing in the Driftless area. Not so in other areas. It will depend on my target fish.

Those of you who said muddler, Have you tried the wooly bugger? If not, you might consider it. The muddler was my nos. one fly up until I started fishing the wooly bugger. It is also my number one trolling fly for stocked and native trout.

Royal Coachman Dry. They have not been around this long for nothing.

That was the first dry fly I ever tied. I once tied one on a 22 promo gold plated hook from Mustang as a result of a bet. It was on display at a sports store for years in Anchorage until stolen. They had it under a magnifying glass. That was back in the 70's. Hardest part was the body as the tip of peacock is very frail. I still have one of the display three hook packs from mustang, but there is now way I could still do it. I doubt I could do a size 12. It is still a killer dry although my single choice for a dry would be a deer hair irresistible.

Yes I've used Wooley Buggers plenty of times. I have olive, brown and black, bead-head and plain and I still have more luck with a Muddler.

Just for a "Can I do it" I did one on a 26 that I use for midges. Don't know how I would fish it now though. I'd have to use a vice to tie it on a tippet.
