Where’d you hit that buck Ruff, in the neck? I always shot mine in the neck. They didn’t go anywhere. That’s a really nice fat buck. Are they rutting up there?
Hack 🇺🇸🍺🍺

Hack, he was up hill a ways and I didn’t make my best shot. Hit him height in the shoulder first shot, then followed it up with a neck shot while he was trying to get up. Started cutting him up tonight and the first round took out the backbone right behind the shoulder. I think I figured out the crosshairs issue.

Wow buddy, what a nice buck. Hope you get your problem figgered out and it turns out to be nothing. Congrats again on your buck. Thanks for the pic.

Thanks Saw, I think I e got it figured out. OJ mentioned illuminated scope, and I have that covered. Pixie asked about cataracts, and I just had an Eye examination last month and I’m all good. Then Tony mentioned a smaller Caliber and larger scope. I’m good on that for deer hunting. I shoot a Rem. 700 in 25.06 with a 4 x 20 Swarovski w/illuminated scope, although it was not on. Also Jeremy mentioned it was a month early for the Rut and he’s dead on. But I will say this buck had one of the largest necks on a buck I have ever taken, and I’ve taken a lot. And Jeremy, I was hunting Klamath. I do believe I figured out problem seeing the crosshairs, but only after seeing the pics of me & the buck. My Transition lenses look like they were working overtime, and I do hope that was the problem as it was 3:30 in the afternoon. Thanks for All your comments and concerns. That is why I love the Stage. Everyone supports ya, and gives great feedback and advice. Thanks Ya All!!

I’ve been trying to look at the Stage post’s when I got cell service this last week or so. Been out Deer hunting with a couple hunting partners. Went out Opening weekend to a place I’ve hunted off and of for about 20 years, and taken a number of good bucks. I even have one that’s gracing one of my walls in the house. First three days hunting the timber strips and flats only gave up seeing 7 Does and fawns. I was stumped, feed everywhere, water within a mile and cover and bedding areas still all there. Then one of the guys ended up with an Abscessed tooth issue. So we broke camp and headed back to town so he could get to the Dr. And get some meds. That turned out good, couple of days on antibiotics and he was feeling a lot better. Now we made a new plan and just drive out to a past spot about 15 miles out of town. Started hunting low at 43/4400 ft to no avail. No track and no deer. Worked a few more patches, then Lunchtime. Eat our Lunch, told a few stories and I told the boys were going higher. Drove back in about 13 miles or so 62/6300 ft now and started hitting a couple new stops. I went up one old rode with my partner(they all won’t let me go by myself anymore since I got my prosthetic) while the other guys went up another. About 500 yards in my partner says, “up the hill to to your left”! There stood a nice Buck looking at us over some plum rush. I pulled up the rifle and could almost not see the crosshairs. Moved them up a little, then down a little and finally found them. Placed them on the Buck and took the shot, at Whitehall point he hit the ground. I walked up the hill about 100 yds and there he lay. What a nice Buck I was thinking, everything I could hope for with what is now my limited walking abilities. I still could not figure out why I had a hard time seeing my crosshairs, and it had me spooked a bit. I sure don’t need eye sight problem’s. Then my partner took a few pictures for me. Later that night after getting the Buck home and taken care of, I took time to look at the pics, and realized why I had the crosshair issue. I had a great day with friends and some rewarding meals with out come. I do have to figure out what to do about the crosshair issue though, as Elk Season starts in 2 weeks!😎

Nice deer. I have to disagree with a few guys on here. I never take a neck shot. One of my favorite meals on a deer is the neck. Slow cooked like pulled pork. When put on Hawaiian buns the neck makes a great family meal. That being said, I have not shot a deer with a rifle for over 20 years. A heart or lung shot with a bow does almost no meet damage. I love blending into the environment sitting in a tree stand. It is such a pleasure watching wild life that does not even know you are there. I get to hunt all day, because the occasional totally unaware ground hunter acts as a driver on public land. I now go fishing during rifle season. I expect I would have to pull out the -06. if I were ever invited on a mule deer or elk hunt that not over taxed my broken body or shallow wallet. But only on a private ranch. I hate combat fishing. And I just plain won't do combat hunting.
