Retired and getting back to fishing. I have a canoe , truck and some experience fishing for bass and trout but not in this region-- North Central Massachusetts. I need to know the better bass ponds around here. I have recently fished Comet Pond in Hubbardston and Lake Dennison in Winchendon. So far so good-- caught about six 1 to 2 pound large mouth bass and never skunked in about 5 sessions using J-9 Rapala jointed lures in various colors. I need advice on what works for the bigger fish and where they are. I heard there were Smallmouth bass at Comet Pond but could not find their hideouts in 5 hours of trying. It has been hot here all summer but the water at Comet still seemed rather cool. Where are the feeder springs at Comet?

¡Welcome to the Fishing Stage Forum, Bob! I used to live, not TOO far to the east of you, out Rt.40, about (since they straightened the road) <3 miles NE of 119, in Groton, Mass. {The house I lived in, had a granite marker next to the driveway that read: "Groton 3 Miles"}... There's a fairly productive, but; PRIVATE "millpond" there... There's alot of decent water, all around there, as I recall (it's been over 43 years, since I've lived there, probably 40+, since I've VISITED!)
What neck'o the woods did you move from? ... We used to have good luck with the Bass, early and late; on Hula Poppers and Jitterbugs, also, my Mom put one heckofallotta Bass in the freezer, using a black rubber worm on a "Worm-harness"... Also fished early and late. (The middle of the day, never seemed overly productive, for whatever reason.)

You MAY have to wait for "first ice", in a couple of months, to find THOSE... It becomes VERY evident, where those springs are located, as the water is "wanting to" freeze.
