We had a leaking valve in our shower, plumber came out replaced the valve, charged me $245. I didn't check it before he left, got in for a shower and the valve opens halfway on the cold water side, stops at the midpoint and can't get any hot water. Wrong valve?

All these new shower valves have “scold protection” adjustments. Basically you usually have to remove handle and outer sleeve and then there is a plastic piece that you can move that will allow the valve to fully open on the hot side.
Did he leave the instruction book? It would be described in there or you can google the brand and model to get the instructions.

You can also PM me and I may be able to aid you via FaceTime or Skype.

Ditto, there is a gear in there. Easy adjustment with the users manual.

Sinker, J in Cleveland sounds like he nailed it. It is a rather easy fix if it is a MOEN faucet. By the way if you are the original owner of a MOEN faucet the parts are free. Life time warranty mailed right to you.

As for the fix just remove the handle, and relocate the stops on the gear so that your faucet operates properly. They should be 2 plastid splined gears. Just pull them straight out.

Then again for what they charged you and if you have another useable unit, have them fix it on their dime.

I heard that about Florida. The older guys who know their stuff are drunkards and unpunctual. The young ones show up bright and shiney but good luck getting them back after the check is in hand.

Understandable and that kinda crap drives me nuts! If you’ve put more than one valve in you should know that the factory setting is ice cold. Why not just spend 2 min and adjust? No pride in workmanship out there with most unfortunately!!! Get out as fast as possible!!

ÂżAdd a new "item on the âś“-list"= NEVER sign "Job Complete" &/or make payment, until "Job Complete" is VERIFIED?

Yep that trust factor needs to be checked. Obviously the guy didn't check out his work when he was done. That s*** happens either a distraction, something else on his mind, or even thought he has done a hundred replacements before and no need to check it out.

It will be interesting if the same guy comes back for the repair.

I don't know, Foodfisher; I've spent quite a bit of time in Florida... I guess, THAT might be more of a "Snowbird" warning, than a true statement about any year-round RESIDENT contractor, of any sort.
