Heads UP... (The Perseids)

Just thought I'd give y'all a reminder, that coming soon, to a night sky near you... The Perseid Meteor showers are "fixin' to be AT peak" on August 12 & 13, if you end up with a clear night, far enough away from these city lights; it's always been a time of year, that I used to like to throw down a blanket in the (freshly harvested) hay field and stare "Heavenward" for a while. {If that hay ain't been mown yet... ¡Stay off the grass!}

Thanks for the update, Able Man, but we are supposed to be able to see from midnight until dawn tonight, here in MN. I don't think that will happen.

Ever since they put in a new shopping center a couple of miles from me, there's so much 'light pollution' that I can see only about 20 stars on a clear night. For sure, I won't be able to see the Perseids.

Tell me again how all 'progress' is a good thing?

Henry, I'm thinking that "either way ya slice it"; we used to lay out on clear nights, from about now, (or even a few days ago) 'til near the end of August & catch site of at least a FEW, each time it was clear enough... It's just what "some expert's prediction" of "the PEAK" of the "showers" (I GUESS, in THIS neck'o the woods) would be. I probably won't get to see any, anyway. (Although I'm 99.999% sure, that I once DID actually see one, from "Old Brooklyn" one night, years ago. (About 5 or 6 miles SE of where I'm at right now.) {And, SITTING IN THE DARK, as we had some über high winds pass through a couple of hours back.} [Must've blown out the pilot light at the power plant!!!]

The Perseids are actually active late July - late Aug. I saw three in 5 minutes two weeks ago, but the peak is usually around the 12 or 13 as I've been watching them every year. They are my "birthday present from God." Comet Swift-Tuttle.
It rains around NJ also almost every year. We've gone upstate NY in the past stopped counting at 100 in 2 hrs. Couldn't go anywhere this year due to Chris' surgery.
