¡¡Yep!! ... I remember that up in NE Massachusetts; people called the bluegill a "Kibby" or "Kibble"... Not entirely sure how it would have been spelled. I don't remember any Yellow Perch up in New England. ¿They got'em up there, any of you New Englanders?
Also, the Bluegill might've been called "Bream" (Brim); at Bayou Pigeon, LA.

Oh, hell yeah ! Yellow perch and 'sunnies' are what I grew up with !
By my late-teens/early-twenties,
I was sick of catching them except
to use for largemouth bait !

You're right about the sunnies' nickname - grew up calling them 'kibbies' or 'sunnies' (generic terms) without regard to actual sub-species
caught !

Hi, ranger ! Don't know where you
are in California - you may want to
add your (less general) location to your profile ! It would help others if you (or they) had questions or information regarding your area !

Regarding yellow perch in California -
as stated in a recent post, about the only lake in California where you
could catch them is Iron Gate Reservoir, up on near the Oregon border !

For general reference, check out
map of their range ! It doesn't show any in California, but rest assured
that 'Iron Gate' is the exception !

I put this picture into another post on here, but thought I would do a separate post to see if I might get more responses. I find it fascinating, the number of names we all have for the same fish in different parts of the country. So, these are just about anywhere in the US that folks fish, except for a few places probably, when you catch one what do you call it?

And the second picture, where could I go in California to catch one of those? And what would you calll it?

Kiver or bluegill and 2nd perchI wouldn't know where to catch them in Cali but they are good eating

Blue gill and pumpkin seed, and the bottom one is a large perch. I would like to get into some of those.
But you don't get yellow perch in San Diego, yes on the bluegill.

"photos"-no I don't have pics of 7" fish. The Perch you are referring to is a Sacaramento Perch, a generic name for trash fish

Them trash fish as you call them are some pretty sweet eating you should give them a try

The "Sacramento Perch" I am referring to stink when you catch them and bring them into the boat. There is no sweet eating. I grew up in N.J. and ate yellow perch every chance I had.

There's a real good reason for that ranger.
