Good Mornin' everybody.
Greeting people you don't know is ever so simple and kind. I believe holding a door falls into that same catagory. I have held them and have had them held. I appreciate the kindness and acknowledge it.

I greet a lot of people at the bait shop, almost all of them are pleasant cause their either going fishing or crabbing, once in a while ya get a grump but you just wish them luck and send them on their way, it's a wonderful thing.

I ran into a grumpy womans libber one time. I held the door for her and she told me I didn't have to do that just because she was a lady. I told her I did it because I was a gentleman.

Excellent answer. From her comment there's no guarantee she is a lady.

How many of you while taking a walk, will pass someone in the park, on the beach, or the hallway at work and give a friendly greeting and nothing is returned on the exchange?

Like am i invisible or what?

We all have encountered rudeness, this sure is high on the list.

I enjoy saying hello to people especially while I am outside working on the yard. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Remember that Johnny Carson routine when he held an envelope to his head that held the answer to a statement he makes? OK, here we go.....

What Flytier was seen with in Vegas.

Gmorn everyone in the sound of my voice. Oh wait that doesn't work here. Well then to everyone reading this πŸ˜„πŸ˜„. Amazes me how many will not make eye contact. If they slightly glance I'll say something. Yesterday i went to post office. Walking thur lot a lady got out of her vehicle. I saw she had a cane n difficulties walking. I told her I'd take her item in with me if she'd like. She said thank you but she had to go to window. I walked ahead n waited for her. She thanked me again i said you're welcome. Dropped my mail in the box n left. As for holding doors thats a toss. Seen many that walks on out n not acknowledge the person holding. Can't let fools like that ruin our day. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Good for you Gordon. Doesn't matter what gender or age is near a door to be opened, it is the polite thing to do.

I guess she didn't attend the Molly Manners school.

Or maybe not. They could be extremely shy or fearful. You can't teach your kids not to talk to strangers for decades and not have at least some of them learn the lesson well.
My dad showed me a bit about this about 60 years ago down in San Francisco. He would look people straight in the eye and give them a friendly greeting and many of them would immediately look away or down at the ground. Some would look very afraid. So different than the poke'n clean towns we lived in.

Alaska, 60 years ago was not far from the start of the Hippy movement. Their heads were among a smoke filled cloud in those days.

As for the shy and for those that took a lesson a little to far, i feel it is only courteous to reply to a greeting. We all have the option to chime in on or not on a conversation if it were to develop.
