Im gonna see what they say at the marina…it sounded to me the owner wants their mechanics to verify that the tank is the problem 1st before we proceed….then ill go from there…what a pain in the azz.

Most tanks are either stainless, aluminum, or plastic. The fittings can corrode. And they are usually accessible through an access panel. This might not be all that bad.

what about a bladder

a tank bladder is a solution for rusty old ranks in vintage cars and trucks being restored
dont know much about them. they are somehow inserted intoa tank and inflated and then hardened somehow.
?????????? dont know any thing about your boat but if you like it there way more options than just giving up on it.hang tough my friend

Thanks smitty….im new at this so i dont know what options there are…i know i was told that total tank replacement is so expensive it will cost moe than i paid for the boat.

The plan was for this to be my entry level boat to learn on and use for a couple summers then trade it in with a few more bucks and jump up a few grades….but with this tank issue….i cant sell this for anywhere close to what i paid with bladders and portable tanks etc……i had a mechanic tell me to change all the filters and just sell it outright….but I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing i just passed on a problem like this to someone else.

I admire you brother. I agree , it would just not be right to do that to someone.
Hopefully the place where you got it will do the honorable thing. Good luck with it. Hope you can get it worked out. 👍

Dang D. I just saw this. That sucks brother. I sure wouldn't trust a mechanic that would tell you to do that. I know how much you was looking forward to the season. How ironic BITE ME did just that. Nice thing about wood deck you can cut replace tank redo floor good to go. Why would mako not give access to tank knowing they don't last forever. You got hosed brother 😕😕

So sorry to hear that Danger.
Hopefully the marina will do the right thing for you. I am surprised Mako is a good boat and 2005 isn't that old. Don't think that should have happened unless really neglected

So sorry to hear of your plight Danger. My buddy has a 2003 Mako and hasn’t had any issues. Possibly your boat was submerged or the previous owner never used the bilge pump. Either way it sucks.

That's what I'd think Yankee. They probably didn't use any conditioner at all. I pulled the aluminum belly tank outa my 81 glastron to get it cut down. It was still in great shape. Not sure what happened to Dangers boat 😕

I can’t believe that you don’t have an aluminum fuel tank. They don’t put metal tanks in pleasure boats. Wouldn’t make sense. I believe it’s originating somewhere else in the fuel system. You should have some access to the tank somewhere. Where is your shut off valve. Or your gauge sending unit. At least at that point you will be able to determine the material that your tank is made of. Here’ my access points. It’s the two holes, between the consoles. Zoom in. I’m redoing my floor…🐟on

Yeah guys…im pretty disappointed….tank is definitely the issue…everything else …..filters, hoses, primer bulb even has been replaced…..i put a new fuel filter/water separator on myself just 2 weeks ago and watched as the mechanic poured rust and dirty red gas out of it.

I always heard Mako was a great boat and believe it still is…i think the previous owner knew about or was even somehow responsible for this issue and dumped it off on the marina where I bought it.
