Some very moving testimonies to the fathers and GF from everybody.
My Dad has been gone for 57 years.
I never got the chance to really "appreciate" my Dad, but I idolized him. I was 11 years old and he was only 39 years old when he died from complications from diabetes.
He loved to hunt and fish so I did get that from him.
My how I would have loved to had more time to do those things together with him.
What I think I'm most sad about now is the fact that he never got to meet my wife of 46 years and my children and his Great Granddaughter. My how proud it would have made me to see the smile on his face to see him play with them as children and watch them grow into the fine young women they are today.
So for those of you who are still lucky enough to still have their Dads here, never miss a time to let them know how much you love them and what they mean to you in your life.
Life itself can be SO short.
Happy Fathers Day to all you stagers today. Steve.

Well put Steve. Your time with him was way to brief. My father suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and had it all of his adult life. He loved to fish and I learned from him and my grandfather. It was one of the few things he could enjoy. He struggled to go to work as he got older. My mom had to help him dress, but in those days the wife stayed at home. We were a one income family. His dedication to taking care of his family was done in a quiet, simple way. He died at 69. His immune system was weakened by the arthritis. A staph infection killed him.
They say the biggest regret people have when they are ready to die, isn't not having things or wishing they had worked less, it's not appreciating the people in their lives more.

I hope all the FS fathers had a great day. Time doesn't stop for any of us.

So what's anybody eating on F day? I'm in the process of smoking a pork picnic roast for pulled pork and I'm gonna do some chicken tomorrow. Girls are bringing sides and deserts. Anyway that's the plan.

Wullfy started this for bb. Happy Father's Day bobby! Come on over and eat some pork. I got some jd in the cabinet and I ain't that desperate that I would drink it.

My son in law took it on himself to fire up the smoker and do a rack of ribs and a nice pork shoulder. Great meal with baked beans and slaw, fresh picked corn. Strawberry shortcake for dessert. One daughter made that. [

I like coleslaw, N.C. way. Happy Father's Day, Spirit and all!

I do too kandy. Nothing beats coleslaw on pulled pork or hotdogs or a burger. Learned that while living in Asheville NC.

No. Greens to me means collards or a mix of collards, mustard, turnip. My ma always cooked dandelion greens in the spring, but I never cared for em as a kid - way too bitter. But collards? Oh my.

Poke greens.

You do a vinegar based dressing like they do down here in Alabama. Lynny does a mayonnaise based dressing. I like em both.

You should throw in some beet greens sometime. Raw or cooked, tasty.

Got a recipe for slaw from a Southern Cooking magazine that uses a buttermilk base. Rich and creamy. I use that one with ribs and shoulders.

1 1/2 cups spicy coconut vinegar
1/2 cup hot water
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
Put it in a pan and let it simmer for about 10 minutes or so to dissolve the sugar and salt.
I pour some of this (maybe a quarter or half) over the pulled pork to moisten it.

Put it back in the pan and add ketchup, mustard, worsterchestershire sauce - all to taste, maybe four to one ketchup and mustard. Put that on your sammich with some slaw and sliced red onions and dill pickle chips - or a side of pickled okra. That's that I did yesterday, everybody thought it was off the chain.

I buy my spicy coconut vinegar at an oriental food store but you can get it thru Amazon or a couple of other places on line. It's less than 2 bucks for about a liter of it at the store. Or you could make you own. White vinegar in a bottle and stuff in some garlic and hot peppers - let it simmer in a pan for a while, bottle it and keep in the fridge.

Great pics Whitey. That's a lot of estrogen in one place when all those females get together.
