Im not one to question the guys on here who are obviously old hands at this, and i am a complete amateur, but the fish i caught dont look like any pics of whiting i can find....no whiskers, and the fins are different....

Please question me. I dont know it all. I'm still learning also. Caught this Permit in the Keys and didnt know what it was. Asked a guy in a boat close by with Florida numbers on his boat. He said Jack. Through it back. Man was I mad. It happens.

Those are croaker not bluefish. Great eating fish and if you save the belly meat when you clean them it makes great strip bait for flounder

When I first joined I felt embarrassed a few times them learned nobody is trying to embarrass each other. Only trying to teach us. We all are family here and trying to educate each other. Look at it this way. You caught a blue whiting that croaks. LOL. Keep posting your fish pictures. Gordon

When you catch small croakers use them for bait to catch big specks or spotted weakfish. Clip one pectoral fin off and it makes them swim in circles which makes them croak alot and attract attention 👍😬
And big specs love them🐠on
