Got out with a friend on Lake Huron and locate a school of good size Smallies. Fished a complex of shallow rock reefs in Thunderbay out of Alpena Michigan. Was able to catch and release about 20 or so fish in 2 mornings.

Holy cow outcast, those are some huge smallies. Congrats to you and your buddy.

Thanks again all. Will be trying again today, will let you know how I do. I know this situation with them feeding so shallow will not last long….

Thanks all. Was a blast!
OJ, I think they were done spawning, and putting on feed bag. The reef was full of fish one minute and empty the next. Could actually see them come from deeper water, like a pack of wolves, very cool! So basically when they were there, we slammed them, them, gone. The water was only 3 ft on top of reef and clear as air. Several times they would chase our lures all the way to the boat and then spook. Was a special couple of mornings.

Oh man, that sounds like a dream come true - and just look at them! Thanks for posting!

Yes they fight hard, much stronger than a similar sized Largemouth. And acrobatic,
They have more Stamina also. IMHO anyway.

In 81 years I have been blessed enough to catch many species of fish saltwater and fresh but I still have the fondest memories catching small mouth. Such a fighter and beautiful fish I love them and your pictures refresh some really great memories. You guys had a great couple of days. Thanks for the photos.

Thanks hemi! Was very special. They have been my favorite fish to target for going on 50 years now! We are blessed with an abundance of smallmouth here in Michigan, with the Great Lakes and a lot of our inland lakes as well. Went back a couple days ago and they were not where I was fishing, the hunt is on!
