Got out with a friend on Lake Huron and locate a school of good size Smallies. Fished a complex of shallow rock reefs in Thunderbay out of Alpena Michigan. Was able to catch and release about 20 or so fish in 2 mornings.

Most came on shallow crawdad colored crank baits. 3-5’ of water. Above 90° both days, water temp 65°

Thanks all. Was a blast!
OJ, I think they were done spawning, and putting on feed bag. The reef was full of fish one minute and empty the next. Could actually see them come from deeper water, like a pack of wolves, very cool! So basically when they were there, we slammed them, them, gone. The water was only 3 ft on top of reef and clear as air. Several times they would chase our lures all the way to the boat and then spook. Was a special couple of mornings.

Yes it gets cold in the area in winter. How does below 0 sound? Lol. Those are some pretty bass though. You gotta love Thunder Bay!

those first two pics...are they a cross breed of smallie and striper? the bars are so pronounced on their sides..we never had any caught like those here in lake erie...honestly just about the best place on earth to catch piggie sized smallies!

That's on of the things cool about Smallmouth Phil, the variety of colors and markings. I've seen light green with almost a white belly, heavily tiger striped like the picture, and nearly all black ones, all from the same lake.
