Depends on the barometric pressure.

I usually switch it up by the grade in which Venus sits in accordance with the lunar cycle.

Same but with Jupiter since it has more gravity.

Lol, it’s not 1951 any more grandpa.

These days us cool kids use ornithomancy to pick line color.

I actually choose my braid color based on water flavor. Hope this helps.

If its a little earthy I'll go green, if its got some tang to it i'll go yellow.

Maybe it's just the braid that I buy, but my dark green color always rubs off on my fingers.

Try to match the clarity of the water! Here in Dallas most of the lakes/ponds are muddy, so a moss green color works really well! Hope this helps.

A lot of quality responses to your question....

Do you use a Fluoro leader? If so it really doesn’t matter, it would be my recommendation to do so if you’re using it as main line. If you’re not using a leader What application are you using it for?

Example, I use straight braid for flipping heavy cover, top water, square bills and frogs.

I would not recommend using straight braid if you’re doing it for Texas rigs, jigs, Carolina rigs, drop shot, senkos etc. in clearer water situations. Braided line is highly visible and could cost you bites.

Just my $0.02

So if you were using it for the latter you’d have a 1-3 foot mono leader?

For real, I use high-viz for applications when I want to see the line, like fishing weightless plastics on a semi slack line. I use dank green or black when I am using braid just for strength.

If there is potential for the fish to get spooked by it, say very light braid for a finesse rig, or if I'm using heavier line to fish heavy cover, but may fish near it as well, I go with a dark green/brown colors that looks like a root/tree/grass if a fish actually spots it.

For rigs where I'm going to be using a leader and want to see the line, I use the very scientific method of picking the brightest color that is on sale. My surf rigs currently have bright yellow and neon green on them, and my inshore rigs I use exclusively with leaders have blue camo and standard camo.
