Southern California deep sea fishing trip.

Is there still the Barge to fish on in Orange County? It was a barge anchored near a Shipwreck and it was least expensive way to fish in the Pacific in that area. It was also better than boat on choppy days.
The Isle of Redondo was the last barge and it went in 1998. My older brother used to take me in the 50's but I don't know which barge. At one time there were 110 fishing barges along the coast.
Way to go! Looks bigger than 20.

No there are no barges around here anymore. I remember we used to fish on one out of Redondo pier.

Well that’s kind of what I thought. But the deckhand thought it was around 20 pounds. Felt like more.

I didn’t realize it was that many. I only remember a couple.

Yeah I think it is where I used to go too. It was quite a bit less expensive than a boat for a day of fishing. I wonder why they are all gone now?

Awesome the Thunderbird good old Skipper Donnie Brockman we used to own the sister ship to the Thunderbird call the Seahorse out of Dana Point Harbor Dana Wharf Sportfishing
The fishing started dropping in the 50's and they were not making money. Most were converted boats of some sort. The Isle of Redondo was built as a fishing barge. The party boats an hunt. I believe they are still running 1/2 day boats and a bunch of piers are still in operation.

Nice yellowtail, one of my favorite fish to eat.
Definitely has a different taste to it.
Nice yellowtail! You sure that's only 20lbs?

That's some interesting history Al!
I grew up down in San Diego and fished on Seaforth and Islandia mostly out of Mission bay.
