My son and me went on our first of the year deep-sea fishing trip out of Newport Beach on a overnight trip to San Clemente Island. We fished for bottom fish including various rockfish and whitefish. After the boat caught limits of these fish, the captain took us surface fishing for game fish. At one of the stops he suggested we fly line with sardines. There were probably a dozen lines out and I was lucky enough to hook up the only yellowtail of the trip. After about a 10 minute or so tough fight I was able to land my yellowtail. It was probably around 20 pounds or so and I was grateful that it chose my line over all the others in the water. So it was a Good day on the water with my son.

Is there still the Barge to fish on in Orange County? It was a barge anchored near a Shipwreck and it was least expensive way to fish in the Pacific in that area. It was also better than boat on choppy days.

Nice tail !!
Haven't caught a Yellow in 6yrs. Since I moved up to Modesto . I know the prices have gone up.
Use take the 3/4 day boat and the twilight boat out of their.
Nothing like fishing on the ocean .!!
Good luck fishing 🎣
