Welcome to the Stage Stanley. There are a lot of places to fish for salmon on the Oregon coast. A number of rivers and ports that you could actually fish both the river and the Ocean. Do you have an Area your going to be at? Or just look at? Jeremy might be along here in a bit and he is more familiar with the coast than I am. I can give you some rivers the Rogue River the Siuslaw, the Chetco the Umpqua‘s and then there are ports Gold Beach, Bandon,Coos Bay. Then Florence, Newport, Depot Bay. I just don’t know when the fish start to run up these different rivers. Hopefully Jeremy can give you better info. Good Luck

Good information. I will begin doing some research. I plan on being in that area for at least a month on or about July 2021.

Salmon on coast. Best spring chinook fishing is actually up in the rivers they run in. Columbia and Willamette. Sandy and Clackamas in Northern Oregon. Fall Chinook can be effectively targeted in the ocean but Fall Chinook are also targeted in the rivers / bays. I have been told there can be some fish in Nehalem Bay in July but I haven’t done it. Spring and fall are usually best and when you see hundreds of boats you know the bite is on. Spring Chinook are in Columbia and many other rivers they run in currently.

Funny looking salmon in that pic but I will eat them any day cooked up as poor mans lobster. Buddies aunt in Soldotna, Ak alway cooked those lings up for us when we went up fishing. Called it the poor mans lobster and I could hardly tell the difference. She was a great cook - with 9 kids I guess you learn!

Yeah maybe the good cooking kept a man around then ended up with 9 children. Then figure out how to feed them healthy inexpensive food. Ling is excellent and not everywhere. I have caught some. The avatar is my PB of Lingcod

I cooked a lot of Sturgeon into poor mans lobster a few years back when it was worth the time to fish for them

So what is the difference if you don’t mind me asking? Name? What locals call them?

Buddy cooked me my first Sturgeon that he had caught on the Columbia. I had to admit to him it was in my top 5 fish species to eat. Poor mans lobster.
