I use one of the beaters from small wire not flat handmixer. Fits in my portable hand drill. The flat might work I just happen to have the round ones. Gets most of the scales.

I might still have one somewhere... I found it was less messy and faster to just use the knife.

Do some research on the old electric potato peelers. They used them in commercial food industry and some bigger restaurants. I have used one for 40 years and they work like magic. . You will never skin another fish with your fillet knife. If you need more in-depth I’d be glad to help.

We leave the skins on most fish except salmon and trout. My son went fishing with a friend that removed the skin of a batch of bluegill when cleaning . After the fish fry my son went back to skins on. I think they have more flavor and hold up better when fried. Just me!

Gotta love that Oregon ingenuity, don'tcha ? We're not lazy, we're just making life a bit easier through practical and logical thinking. Love the tip, thanks !

Ingenuity is right. So the scouting pad ..??? Brillo? It doesn’t get buried by fish? You do it trolling? High speed? Electric motor to avoid gas/oil on dinner? I like the idea just curious of more details.

I have a buddy that uses garden hose in lawn. Just sprays it from tail to gills then flip over and repeat

Trout and salmon can be scaled with a jet stream from a hose. I use the clip on a cleaning table to hold the fish by the tail Warm water fish and saltwater fish scales stick tight. I love my electric scaler for them when not filleting the fish. Use it outside with a fish cleaners apron as the scales will be everywhere. One good prevented fin poke from a rock fish and it will pay for itself many times over. I had to replace the scale guard as the plastic one broke first use.

I do the same! Hand held sprayer on garden hose spray against the scales on salmon, trout, kokanee and steelhead. Works great!

Hose,Not sure it will work on bluegill As for salmon I remove the skin. For dragging the fish behind the boat, not pretty. A guy at the dock showed me some he drug across the lake. I do feel a electric scaller works better. Only about 15-20 seconds a fish.Anyway whats the hurry. Need time for a couple BUDS and reflect on the day on the lake. When your retired you try to enjoy ever day. But that's just me.

You got it almost right. I am with you for everything but the BUD. I highly suggest you switch to Black Butte for dark beer with meals and slow sipping. Pick Modella for a cold thirst quenching beer. Give it a try. Even the best of fishermen can always learn something new. You are right about the hose on warm water fish. It does not work.
