Do you guys have a fish scaler? Would it be worth it to get one?

Unless you have another way to remove the scales by all means get one. Of course it depends what you are catching and how you prepare the catch for dinner.
I am sure I have one, but I filet everything I plan to eat. Much depends on your preference.
Haven't scaled a fish in over 40 years (been catching mostly trout since then) but I used to just use the back of the filet knife.
Table spoon is a great fish scaler
I am usually catching trout, salmon, kokanee, and steelhead, and they usually end up on my grill or in my smoker. While I fillet the larger fish, I love to eat the skin, regardless of whatever method of cooking I choose. My solution to scales is a semi-stiff cleaning brush from the $Store, dedicated to the task of "scrubbing" the scales off under running water by the motion of scrubbing from tail to head (against the way the scales lay). It only takes a few strokes and it's quite evident as to what is and isn't free of scales. Easiest to do while fish is still whole (before filleting or, in the case of salmon, cutting into steaks). For other fish, like perch and crappie, I almost always fillet and get rid of the skin, and I definitely skin my catfish always.
My buddy bought a battery-powered scaler that he tried on several species and declared it to be "the biggest waste of money I ever spent on fishing gear of any kind since I shelled out $900 for a Sage flyrod that I find no better than the $200 TFO I bought years ago".
Trout and salmon can be scaled with a jet stream from a hose. I use the clip on a cleaning table to hold the fish by the tail Warm water fish and saltwater fish scales stick tight. I love my electric scaler for them when not filleting the fish. Use it outside with a fish cleaners apron as the scales will be everywhere. One good prevented fin poke from a rock fish and it will pay for itself many times over. I had to replace the scale guard as the plastic one broke first use.

I never need nor use one. Ever
I just spent 20 minutes cleaning the scales from emerald shiners off my rod and reel. Good what a mess
My partner caught a coho and I have scales over half my boat. Gotta clean that next.
I’d hate to see what a mess I’d make if I were to intentionally try to scale my catch.
Try using a table spoon on the fish inside a large plastic bag. Seen a fish monger do it once!
Have three ,There Great . Great for Perch and Bluegill. When you have a 100 plus perch it's nice and save time. My 12 year old grandauther can do a great job with it.
Trout don’t need scaling, everything else I filet
I love eating most skin fish. I use the Magic all-purpose Fish scaler (Made in the USA) purchased over 20 years ago. Probably cost $9. I scale my fish outdoors and wash the scales off the patio into the drainage ditch before the flys attack.
This post was meant for fish that have scales!
