I forgot the only picture I took, I don't have a smart phone but took my iPad out and it worked. Most of you probably have never seen a spottie before. They say they can get to 5 lbs but after fishing the bay for 8 years the biggest I've caught was around 2lbs. These guys fight pretty good though especially on light gear. And the most I've caught with a partner was 176 including other species fishing for 8 hrs. LW.

OBG I do believe that that is a spotted bay bass saltwater fish related to the Calico and the Sand Bass San Diego Harbor is one of California hot spots for spotted bay bass

Thanks Al
Only fished the S.D. harbor a couple of times, was always leaving to go to the Coronado's and La Jolla kelp beds. The only thing I remember catching in the bay were a lot of rays and some mackeral around the bait barges.

They look similar to a barred sandbass which we catch occasionally in South Bay, more apt to catch them closer to point Loma by the ocean. LW.

ยกWell, NICE, Fishandrods! That critter puts me mindful of a Lake Erie Perch!
