LOFT ? I'm confused ! All these months I thought this was a fishing Forum, but this sounds more like golf ! Does this mean
we should yell 'FORE' before
every cast ? (Just askin' !)

Sometimes you’re the bug, sometimes you’re the windshield. Lol.
I believe we’ve all felt that way one time or another. 😄

Welcome to the Forum, LongA, sometimes the fish catches you, and then, sometimes you catch the fish.

Sounds somewhat similar to
what my grand-dad told me
about women - " A man chases
a woman until SHE catches HIM !

If you think your fishing needs improvement, maybe you should:
1/ Find an experienced/know-ledgeable fishing partner to show you the ropes ?
2/ Look up fishing tutorials/
videos on YouTube for tips
and/or technique ?
3/Catch a fishing show (or two) on TV that gives tips/advice ?

I learned the basics from my grand-dad as a kid and stopped fishing for about 10 years when
he died, then learned considerably more from my best friend/fishing partner after he persuaded me to start up again ! Unfortunately, he's
gone too - died in 2012 at age 60 from an aneurism !

Regardless of what I have
learned from them, my fishing
is often a hit-or-miss affair - still get my share of 'skunked' fishing trips, but on other days it seems you can't lose ! That's just
fishing, for ya !

(Sorry this post got
a little long-winded !)

Well that saying does have some validity but I have yet to have a day where some fool tries successfully to shove a GMC up my ass! Cant say that for the bugs. 😁

As they say - 'the last thing to go through a bug's mind when it hits the windshield is its butt !'

I am mid 40's and just got back into fishing late last year. (previously I had not fished since ~21yo) I may have gone 5-6 times last year, in a small river and on a Lake (both in a boat). I think I was skunked twice on the lake, and once or twice on the river. I did catch 2 great keeper Crappie in the river on one trip, and they tasted great. Made it worth it even though I do get frustrated. I enjoy the boat more because the skunk days are so much more enjoyable. I understand you may not have that option, but just presenting my side.

This year opening Trout in PA for youth mentor program a week early (Mar. 27) , my fishing bud aand I were having issues with my kids catching, so we also brought out our rods to increase the chance of getting my kids a fish to reel in and learn drag etc. So all 4 of us were skunked, and some other fisherman came in across the river, casting in the same general area, and caught on first cast... Imagine how that feels? We just tried different things, different baits, and even some spinners just to get a Palomino an option to chase. It chased once just a few feet, and it just kept coming up and down the river slowly laughing at us LOL. NO one got it all day at least why we were there, as we saw it when we left. Anyway, we switched up baits etc, and both my boys were able to catch a total of 5 trout.

Move a week later to opening day April 3rd, it was so cold, that even seasoned veterans had trouble, and I did not get but maybe a single bite most of the day. Tough when we see 2-3 trout at a time swimming around and nosing up to your bait. I decided to go to the bottom of the dam/falls where it was release only/artificial lures, and within 5 min I caught the first Rainbow, then 5 min later another. They were decent size and thick. Made it all worth it.

Stick with it, to be honest, every fisherman "sucks" certain days.

19 of them do not keep that many all the time but wanted to smoke them turned out great.
The red spots is blood from the fish I use the bait tanks as a cooler fill with ice and throw them in there.

That's awesome Drifter, nothing better than smoked fish and it is always better to fill that smoker up before you're fired up and I'd say you got a smoker full thank you for the post and the pictures
