Should have been a little more specific
Carbs professionally rebuilt
New fuel pump , fuel lines, water pump lower seals
New fuel tank / line
New cold start solenoid
New plugs
Can’t remember compression readings but all 3 checked good and within 5 psi of each other.
It’s obviously getting spark , it runs for 5 minutes
Obviously getting fuel. Throttle responds when running

Something that was new might be bad?

Back to the vent you said new fuel tank. How does the vent work on the new tank?
Is it a built in tank?

It don't have a heat sensor that is shutting it down does it. Is it over heating

Makes me wonder. Maybe if there is a temp sensor doing it. If it dies then does it start right back up? Or has to cool down before same results. does he have to keep pumping the gas bulb?

I would say that if it just shuts off...it’s electrical. If it shuts down gradually its gas.I don’t think you specifically said. Maybe low oil shut down...🤷‍♂️🐟on

My brother is just getting around to firing it up.after not running for 17 years
He said it runs with throttle response but dies after about 5 minutes
New oil bypass Fuel pump installed.
He said it runs better each time he starts it
I think he’s close
Anyone familiar with this motor that I can have my brother reach out to ?

Run thru some sea foam and non ethanol.

If it dies as soon as it starts warming up, I'd be looking at coils or the control box. Something thermally sensitive.

Just cause water is coming out of that pee hole doesn't mean it it will not get hot

Just trying to see what all is going on, your comment is true.

Ben...on my 93 Johnson (OMC made Evinrude and Johnson) my motor wouldn't stay running at idle. Bought carb overhaul kits, pulled the carbs, tore them down, 24hrs in carb cleaner, put them back together with the rebuild kit and made a big difference.

Hells bells, I should have read everything first. Does this motor have the fast idle on the controls? Does it seem like it idles fine but when the engine comes up to temp it idles down and dies? Throttle linkage adjustment is critical for idle on these motors. I think I have the procedure for an 88. I'll check later today and post pics if I do. Also check the recirc hoses, the check valve and pulser if using a diaphram style fuel pump. A little sea foam to clean the reed valves won't hurt either.
