I moved to a new town years ago that has river running through it with awesome fishing opportunities but knew no one and I didn't have a boat!So I ran an ad in the local news paper!! Was astounded at the amount of calls I got from people with boats that have no one to fish with!! We would meet at the ramp and go!! I never showed up without at least 50 dollars for bait and gas plus I always brought a cooler full of sandwiches and drinks! We might only burn 5 gallons of gas all day but I was always invited back for another time! Now if your out burning 100 gallons an hour that's a whole other ball game!! I think it just boils down to common courtesy and being taught at an early age!! When people fuss about the the money ask them if they know how much a charter costs!! I made Alot of friends with a common interest and have never had a problem..

Being the owner of the boat. First invite is my treat! If I have a good time with guest and they behave appropriately. Help putting boat away, cleaning etc. They will get a repeat invite.
If seasoned fisher person, trips turn regular. I expect help with the expenses. This guest not having a boat is now on a boat rather than bank fishing needs to show some appreciation for the invite. Most seasoned fisherman understand the expense and are very much appreciate the invite and would like to be invited back.

But the show up, fish and leave person will not get a second invite! I enjoy sharing, enjoy the company of most people. But, I have no issues fishing alone.

Depends on ages of other fisher peoples - if grandkids, I pick up da costs (gas, bait, lunch, ice cream for return trip home); if an adult, usually split all costs including beer - but each person responsible for their own fishing lying stories.

Well, when I go out to Tennessee to visit my buddy and spend a week bass fishing ( he owns a bass boat and I stay at his house ), I always give him gas money for both his boat and his truck! And, after a long day of fishing, I buy the first round of drinks...

I've fished with a number of people through the years, especially in the last fifteen years or so the subject of gas and other expenses has never really come up, probably because none of the people I have fished with have any issues with money.

My uncle bought a Grady White used for about $25k when he lived in the SF bay area, he spent about $6k in electronics, had to buy a truck suitable for towing it, all said and done he tied a bundle up. He has a dental lab and was making great money. My wife and I have always laughed about the way he bitched about taking his Dentist clients out fishing outside the Golden Gate, he would go on rants about all the money they are making and they never offered to kick something his way for gas or expenses.

I'd tell him, people that are flush don't think about things like that, it's a matter of simply not even thinking of it. If they asked you'd say no don't worry about it and people know that. I've asked people casually if they would like me to kick in for gas or launch fees, and have had guys say sure, you can get the launch fee. With friends it's one thing that's easy to talk about, but what would the etiquette be for hooking up with someone say on FS?

I've always got cash on me, and wouldn't give the idea of picking up expenses a second thought if that's what someone thinks is right. Wouldn't have a problem using my truck to pull their boat either.

Oh, I know what I've told people, make a lunch for me too,

I've also asked if a friend wants me to make them a sandwich too.
I've fished with a number of people through the ye... (show quote)
