[quote=Robert J Samples]You guys remind me of a TV show some 10 years or more ago. It was about a door to door salesman who had a speech impediment. Now he sold all sorts of things, perhaps like an old time Watkins or Reliegh salesmen. Well, he had one female client who would usually buy one of his special items every month.

Years go by, and his special client dies. Later, he goes by and the son of the client answers the door. When the son realizes who the salesman is, and his company, he said, "Please come in, i want to show you something!' Upon entering the house, the son leads the salesman to a room in the house that was stuffed, floor to ceiling with his products. The woman had felt sorry for him and bought something every time even though she had not need for anything, but just stacked all of it in one of her rooms. Are you guys going to be like that lady? Just Sayin...RJS[/quote

I use everything i buy, some things need to be replaced and restocked, i do think sometimes i buy a little too much but it'll all get used eventually, but i like to be sure that if i loose or need something i have an extra at home.

Search a previous topic which was about GAS or Gear Accumulation Syndrome from about a year ago. It was quite entertaining. With all the new members, I suspect there may be a few more in this subset.

I will never forget the excitement of receiving my first BPS Master Catalog...must have been about 1983?

I've bought some mighty nice shirts at garage & estate sales for $1 or less. Blue jeans & t shirts are my every day attire but I can put on a button up shirt if I have to attend a funeral. Got an estate sale coming up this Wednesday. Sale add says lots of men stuff. I'm looking forward to the fun. Might get my hands on some experienced fishing tackle. Hope so. Tight lines.

Plumbob, I don't think you understand. I really don't give a rats hind end if everybody in the joint notices & gets offended. I don't want nor own a suit. Dress pants for me would be a pair of bluejeans that aren't faded out or have holes in them. I wore proudly the uniform of the US Army & later i wore the uniform provided by my employer. Now it's my turn to say what I wear. My dad was buried in a western shirt & blue jeans. That's plenty good enough for me.

I'm going to ask my son about that Gear Accumulation Syndrome. He's studying to be a Physiologist. He's already warned me about the Caretaker Syndrome I'm subject to get taking care of my Dementia mother. I'll relay his take on it but it may be a few days.

I'm lucky, my wife understands the difference between having the hobbies of going fishing and collecting fishing equipment. Unfortunately for her, I have both hobbies. But as she says: "He could spend his retirement doing worse things and spend more money collecting more worthless things." Thank God for that woman.

$23 is cheap for a shirt now. I get my spending cash from doing odd jobs, bush hogging, mowing, plowing gardens, home repairs, pluming, electrical, most any thing. I'm retired, the extra cash buys most anything I need for fishing. Don't answer, "Where did you get the money to buy that?" It's a trick question there is no justifiable answer that will satisfy the person ssking the question. Keep fishing. DEEJAY

Just my opinion but you don’t sound retired to me. 😂

I guess there's retired and retired.
The first one is retired from makin lots of money and you still have a lot of it.
The second one is retired on a fixed income. Enough money to get by on but not a lot of extra.
I think a lot of us fall into the second one, I know I do. But that's OK, we get by and I fish 2 or 3 times a week usually. Hopefully twice next week. YEAAA!
