I think having a will is so necessary nowadays. Not only a will but my wife and I have made a formal agreement signed by both of us. She has children from a previous marriage which I raised and I have children so our agreement covers equitable passing of the estate, but who can really know, someone new comes along and perhaps our agreement is forgotten or amended. Warren Buffet reminded his children and grandchildren that the majority of his wealth will go to charity except of course for stock in Berkshire Hathaway for them. Get a good education and make your own way is his advice to them. My Dad in his wisdom put some of his estate into our hands when he became ill. My wife's father married again with a fairly valuable estate hoping to leave much of it to his kids but she took advantage of a widow's law that gave her a sizable share of the estate. In the end it is faith that things will be done right. A will, a must. Sorry to hear about your situation but it is news I often here from friends of friends who passed.
