We have a ramp here in LA. that no one uses. Too steep. Every bit of 45degree, but might be more. The only person I know that thought he could, had a 2500 4 wheel drive, dually. He didn't lose the truck or boat, just locked the brakes, and had someone pull him out.

I wonder what engineer designed that ramp?

I've gotten in the habit of putting plug in when i get there. That way i know its in. Never unhook safety chain or strap till boats in water. A guy i knew would undo things then back in. He decided to put glide sticks on bunk boards. Lucky for him 1st time with sticks on he had a spotter. Started down ramp boat started moving. Guy yelled he hit the gas. He got boat in water but no rope attached. Slick sticks worked well. Boat came off fast. He had to swim out to get it. Good thing river wasn't running fast. Dam was 1/2 mile down river. Yep same friend that got my boat ready. He had a boat for many. Always something to learn

With my memory going somewhere, I have a number of things I have to do. It's seven, so putting the drain plug in is one, unhooking the lights, is two, unhooking the boat, etc And I count each one, if I don't have 7, I go around looking for what I forgot.

I believe we have all made some kind of mistake at the ramp one time or another. I had a 26ft. that refused to come off the trailer till I rebuilt the trailer rollers. Than I almost didnt make the water with the boat it started leaving the trailer faster than I was backing down. I was lucky I saw what was happening and stepped on the gas and reached the water with only a scratch on the rear bottom.

I wonder why folks haven’t abandoned their drain plugs and converted to dingy bailers?

You can definitely see some strange sights at the ramp. I watched a guy back in one day. Un hooked strap n saftey chain. Guy in the boat fired it up put it in reverse. Keep slamming throttle. Bow would pop up but wasn't moving. I walked over and ask him if he'd taken the stern straps off. Pull back up the ramp both still on. Watched a guy bri g in a big ole bass boat. Chop at ramp was big n the wind was wild. He came in hot put boat sideways on trailer. Think he had more money than brains. He keep trying to run it off the trailer sideways. I keep wondering why his driver just back up n float it off. Last a friend of mine had a roller trailer with gumed up rollers. He'd unstrap then back down. Next time i saw him i got the story. Lubed rollers unstraped started back in. Boat hit ramp halfway down.

My wife wouldn't even attempt to drive my truck and trailer, much less back it up. She can't even back a vehicle into the driveway or a parking space.
