I can afford and will be purchasing one of the following 3 reels.....
Penn Squall
Diawa Seagate
Shimano TLD 20

All 3 are priced about the same, all seem to fit what i need ( drifting/ trolling/ bottom fishing off cape may) and are all very good.

The advice from you guys will determine which one i get....ive never been steered wrong on here...

So ...gentlemen...start your opinions!

I think you should get all three and maybe a couple more new rods!!!

I agree with Fishing Fool you can't have too many rods or reels. Consider it wealth your wife can get at a garage sale after you're gone.

I have told my sons not to let their mother sell any of my guns or fishing outfits for what I told her I paid!! She knows though as all of you women have the mental telepathy and xray vision and seem to be able to smell money.

Have used a number of different reels but settled on shimano. They seemed to be the smoothest and durable for what I want

That is a problem we have to make them think the cost was much lower than it actually was so they don't hyperventilate on us. Of course when they see the credit card bill we have to act dumb and unaware. I have a fairly large coin collection and a spread sheet on their cost that she will not get to see until I become worm food.
Then the instruction will be don't sell any of them for less than I paid. Many have gone up in value since 1974 when I started. There will be a lot of "I knew it's" being said then.

Shimano makes a quality product yet Penn is coming back with its own quality gear to compete with Shimano. (i.e. the Fathom reels) I believe that the Penn has lost a bit of confidence in the fishing community and they are trying hard to win back customers. I am not familiar with the Squall series but I would think to give the Penn another look. Then there is the patriot in me that wants to buy American...

Only problem with that sentiment Bill, is Penn only makes Senators, and Internationals in the USA. All others are made overseas.
