I can afford and will be purchasing one of the following 3 reels.....
Penn Squall
Diawa Seagate
Shimano TLD 20
All 3 are priced about the same, all seem to fit what i need ( drifting/ trolling/ bottom fishing off cape may) and are all very good.
The advice from you guys will determine which one i get....ive never been steered wrong on here...
So ...gentlemen...start your opinions!
I think you should get all three and maybe a couple more new rods!!!
I agree with Fishing Fool you can't have too many rods or reels. Consider it wealth your wife can get at a garage sale after you're gone.

Now, which one of you guys has a spare bedroom for maybe a little while?🥸🥸
Tell her what I tell mine, imagine what a great quality husband you can get with all this stuff after I'm gone.

I already told my girls....komunity kollege is just as good as one of them fancy ones anyway....
I have told my sons not to let their mother sell any of my guns or fishing outfits for what I told her I paid!! She knows though as all of you women have the mental telepathy and xray vision and seem to be able to smell money.
That is a problem we have to make them think the cost was much lower than it actually was so they don't hyperventilate on us. Of course when they see the credit card bill we have to act dumb and unaware. I have a fairly large coin collection and a spread sheet on their cost that she will not get to see until I become worm food.
Then the instruction will be don't sell any of them for less than I paid. Many have gone up in value since 1974 when I started. There will be a lot of "I knew it's" being said then.

Hahaha...yes sir...i got it figured if we cut out meat for dinner a couple times a month and only run the heater a couple hours a day, i can afford a St Croix $ 900 boat rod. Why? I dont know....but if its THAT expensive it must be good ...right?
HemiHappy: Well, not necessarily. They could be cashing in on a good reputation. Just Sayin...RJS
Shimano makes a quality product yet Penn is coming back with its own quality gear to compete with Shimano. (i.e. the Fathom reels) I believe that the Penn has lost a bit of confidence in the fishing community and they are trying hard to win back customers. Only problem with that sentiment Bill, is Penn only makes Senators, and Internationals in the USA. All others are made overseas.

Not many made here anymore...i grew up near the Penn factory in north philly....they still make some reels there now but i dont know which ones.
I am in the process of weedin everything out except my Penn reels not that there is anything wrong with the others I just have too many , so when i take someone on the boat or surf fishing i'll up grad them or supply if they don't have a rod and reel , I get people to want go more often and now that i am retired that is a good thing , oh yea , aint never partin with my Penn reels .
