I can afford and will be purchasing one of the following 3 reels.....
Penn Squall
Diawa Seagate
Shimano TLD 20

All 3 are priced about the same, all seem to fit what i need ( drifting/ trolling/ bottom fishing off cape may) and are all very good.

The advice from you guys will determine which one i get....ive never been steered wrong on here...

So ...gentlemen...start your opinions!

I have six TLD 25's. I use them for trolling for Dolphin, Kings, Wahoo and Tuna. I also bottom fish in 60 to 120 ft.depth for Black sea bass, Snapper, Porgies and many other fish. That's my 2 cent worth. Good luck Danger

No experience with any of them, but I'm a shimano guy, been using them for the past 40 years or so. Penn is tried and true, probably can't go wrong. But I don't care for Daiwa. My two cents. Were it me, I'd go with the Shimano.

The 20 will do you just fine. I'm just letting you know the TLD's are a very good sea worthy reel. I think you will be well satisfied.

What I always do is look the items up at amazon and go through the under 4 star comments and see what they say. I get, I think, some unbiased info about the item. I almost bought a Diawa reel last week and changed my mind. Not the model you are looking at but a different one. I like to get hints on customer service.

I've owned a few and I just never felt like they were as well built as the shimanos. I've got some shimano reels that I've been using for over 20 years and they perform as well now as they did the day I bought em. I bought a Daiwa Tatula last year about this time and used it once and it quit on me - the level wind quit working. I returned it and bought a shimano. I only own 1 Penn reel, an old 501. It's a work horse, but I never use it, I don't do that type of fishing. I'm familiar with Penn's reputation and it's a fine one.

I'm a Penn guy. Have several both spinning and conventional. Take care of them and they will take care of you.

Shimano or Penn. I have some of each, not those models but quite a bit older, both dependable.
