Going to Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee the middle of March with my son that is retiring from the Special Force's. Can anyone give me some information about this lake or some good spots to try and what kind of bait or lures to use this time of the year. I would love to show him a good time since we haven't seen each other for years.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Robo, if you don't hear much helpful info, PM Ivey, he's the Bass Master in Tennessee and should be able to help you out. Have fun with your son, and Thank him for his service, for us.

Mid March is a tough call. Hard to predict what they will be doing.
Iā€™d plan on spending a lot of time on the electronics hunting them.
If they are still deep, vertical spoons may get em. Or deep tubes or dropshot.
If they are mid depth , dropshot definitely , slow roll spinnerbaits , maybe shakeyheads
If they are shallow , ned rigs , tubes or shakeyheads and definitely jerkbaits.
Beautiful lake
Good luck and enjoy the time with your son.

RoboHeart: Sir, I am somewhat puzzled at your going to a body of water you appear by your questions to know nothing about. Is that your son's request?

Some or the prior post have some good suggestions, that I would follow.

I would suggest that you hire a guide for at least one half day. He can get you on to fish, and would also be a world of information, so ask a ton of questions for the rest of your trip. Good Luck and Thank your son for his Sevice. Just Sayin...RJS

Hire a guide. You and your son can enjoy each others company and let someone else find the fish.

This can be a very tricky lake. The fish here will change weekly if not daily. I would say at that time of the year, they should be getting ready to move into the shallows to spawn.
They could already be on beds if the weather will warm up the water temperature.
There is suppose to be a few pro tournaments coming in around that time.
If you can, send me a message a day or two before you travel and I should be able to let you know more. I'm on Dale Hollow at least once a week.
I can tell you right now that it's a hard to get bite...at 20-30' deep.

Mostly looking for smalle mouth but anything we can catch would be fun. I know its pretty early in the year but it's the only time he could get off.
