The smell has to be from a legally caught fish that you remove from your pole. And that fish smell has to be present for a cetain amount of time. This makes sense in that a fish almost to the bank or boat and it gets off does not break your skunk. Putting a minnow on your hook does not break a skunk. When you think it through it is the best way to determine this issue.

It’s all beginning to make sense. Lol

I do appreciate all the concern and suggestions about me and my skunk. I still feel like the skunk is alive. He ain't feelin too good and he may not be able to make it out with me this coming week, so I feel like there's a good possibility that I may be able to bury him soon. By the banks of the American River. But until I catch a trout, he's still hangin in there.

We call 'em squaw fish here in Oregon, too (actually Pikeminnow). They actually have a bounty on them ($5-$8 bucks a fish or something like that) on the Columbia. Some guy in 2018 earned over $70,000 and caught over 8,000 squaw fish!! I might have to quit my day job!!

You think it would still be as relaxing or as much fun if you HAD to catch fish?

I KNOW that if I lived up there I would be doin it. I would at least give it a try for a season and see how I did and how much I liked it. As long as I liked doin it, that would be fine. BUT if it started NOT bein fun then I'd stop. I don't NEED a job. But if you wanna pay me for what I love to do and might be doin anyway, then it's a win win.

From what I’ve heard in order to make any money at it you’ve got to put in a lot of time and devotion. The ones making the money are considered “tournament” fishermen. But if you just want to go out and wet a line and make a few bucks to offset the cost of your “habit” then why not...🐟on

I think catfish hunter supplements his income pretty well with "minnow" bounties. I know a couple of spots down here where I could easily make hundreds a day at 5 dollars a pop.

To catch 8000 fish you'ld have to average 32 a day. That's 50 five day work weeks. Two weeks vacation. Un paid. Let's say you averaged a 6.50 bounty on each fish, that's a little over 50000 dollars. Soundin more and more like a bad deal to me.

I've never really caught that many before. A few, but not that many.

Go up to the Feather River Canyon on Hi-way 70. There's a half dozen or so dams with small reservoirs behind them - they generate power for somebody. Those reservoirs are full of em. And they'll eat about anything you throw in there. Good luck catching a trout.

Then again, there is that catching part.... I better quit teasing you or you are going to push me off the front of my boat! Are you ready to go take on Collins again in a couple of weeks?

Sure. Let me know when. They should be spawning here soon, no?

You ever get over to Scott's Flat outside Nevada City? I used to (til last year) go over there this time of year in my float tube - smallies be on their beds and they do not appreciate a Kastmaster tossed up into their nests and they will let you know about it. There are also some big ol brown trout that live in that lake and they feed on the kokanees. Find the kokes, you've found the brownies.

The season is from May 1st - September 30. The Pro’s fish 24/7’s. They’ve got to be 9” or better. Up to 25 are $5. 25-200 $6. 200 plus $8. Then $500 for tagged fish....🐟on

Yep. I might have to round up a bunch of my 12-and-under students for some squaw fish action when they're out of school for the Summer! No license required and they'll fish for a happy meal!
