Actually, I think there are plans to rename Squaw Valley.

Yeah I looked it up Steve and it's hard to get information. Some people
(? I don't know who ) refer to it as Olympic Valley, but the official name is still Squaw. I know there are big plans to do some mighty big changes up there, like adding about 1000 hotel rooms and a water park. What?

Not a great picture angle on the fish, and I'm told there are no walleye in California, but with that lighter color on the bottom of the tail fin I'd be taking a second look.

Here's a "pikeminnow" (first) and then a walleye about the same size. You are correct, there are no walleye in California and no perch either, despite the fact that the natives here call anything that's not a bass or a trout, a perch.
They are some ornery devils, very predatory, eat roe, fish, just about anything. They are fun on light tackle for sure.

You could get an $8 reward for that pike minnow up here on the Columbia...๐ŸŸon

He's not quite dead, I did catch a fish today, but it was not a trout and since I consider myself a trout fisherman, that stripedy bastardo will not be pronounced officially dead until I do catch one. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I set out in pursuit of trout and failed at my mission. BUT. It was a perfect day - low 60's, no wind, kinda cloudy and I had an entire beautiful riverfront park practically all to myself. Said to myself "can this be California"?

So here's a pic of what I caught. I used the jar of power bait for a size reference. Dang these guys can fight. I didn't take a pole holder down to the water, so i's just sittin there with the butt of my rod shoved down my boot to hold, and this guy about jerked the rod into the water.

I know the catfish hunter will recognize this, anyone else? My grand daughter Lorelei caught one about twice this size last spring on the Feather.

Congratulations Spirit. A fish is a fish so I think stripes is a goner. Happy catching fish from now on. If itโ€™s not what youโ€™re fishing for, change bait.๐Ÿฆ

And this one had been eating well, definitely chunky for the size of it.

OK Spirit, I looked it up, according to the IFG...

Section Z.z.997
Killing a "skunk" in fishing terminology can only be accomplished by your sense of smell. The IFG recognizes the following 2 methods.
Z.z.997a
In all cases the smell must originate from a legally caught fish removed from the "skunkee's" fishing pole.
Z.z.997a.b
During the drive home the smell of fish must be present for no less than 23 miles or the entire drive home, whichever is the shortest distance traveled.
Z.z.997a.c.
A washing of the hands for 10 seconds with nothing more than an ordinary hand soap (see amenment ZzZzZz for list of qualifying soaps) and cold water, the "skunkies" hands must still contain some fish aroma when placed against the face.

Them's the rules buddy. What's the verdict, dead skunk or not?

Welcome to my world FD!!! Lol

I think I understand the rules.... instead of playing off of skunk as a zero the rules adhere to the more prominent association with word skunk.... smell.

Oh crap I almost forgot Spirit. I sure hope that isn't a sq er... pike whatever. They aren't supposed to be in there. If they are you best get your trout quick. Those darn things will almost wipe them out!

So let me get this straight. If you catch something that makes your hands stinky then youโ€™ve killed the skunk?๐Ÿ˜€

The smell has to be from a legally caught fish that you remove from your pole. And that fish smell has to be present for a cetain amount of time. This makes sense in that a fish almost to the bank or boat and it gets off does not break your skunk. Putting a minnow on your hook does not break a skunk. When you think it through it is the best way to determine this issue.
