1st time I spent more than a few minutes to change a battery. Had to borrow a special tool to take inner wheel well out. Guy I bought new battery from Had one. Still took me all day. Still trying to get warm. Pay for tow and shop in town next time.

I’d rather take a butt kicking than to have work on a car.
Used to be my passion. Not any more.

Some Dodge and Chrysler vehicles have that. You have to take the wheel off first then the wheel well. Almost as bad as some older Jaguars. You literally had to unbolt the motor mounts to change the rear spark plugs.

Mercedes, Jeep, Ford and VW have been placing them under the passenger seats. Unreal.

I used to be a mechanic, fortunately ranching called me and I quit, I still do a great deal of my repairs. But I agree, they are building them so you have to take them to the shop, speciality tools, scopes, diagnostic equipment, has taken away the shade tree mechanic!

You can't do very much to your car anymore without a fortune in sophisticated specialty equipment and tools. And even then, in order to change the air filter, you have to remove the left rear wheel, open the glove box and the trunk lid, disconnect the battery (there went all of your radio station presets) and drain the gas tank. Then after you change the air filter, you have do go through all those steps in reverse order, in exactly the same sequence.

At least, it seems that way!

I’ll continue to keep my old ‘01 Ford diesel. I’m capable of repairing just about anything that might go wrong with it. I refuse to take it to the shop at the rates they charge these days and that goes for my ‘00 boat also....🐟on

I had to remove the gas pedal on a Volvo to replace the cabin air filter. I know they have a reputation for difficult repairs, but come on. I have a Hawk induction strobe light somewhere. Used to fix my vehicles now I pay. Miss the old days/ways.

The fellas that engineer this crap better hope I never find em. He'll be going to pay someone to put his nose back in the middle of his face.. the Chevy Tahoe, in order to change a headlight bulb you have to remove the grill and a bunch of other crap. Minimum 2 hrs. Most shops here have a shop rate of 130-140 bucks n hr. I have lotsa tools. I will fix my own. NEVER take anything to a dealership. If I can't fix it I know people who can. Lol.

Had a starter die on a cadillac a few years ago,...used to be $4o bucks and an hour under the car.....this one the engine literally had to be separated from the transmission to get to starter. So that $4o quickly became $700

I had an ‘01. 7.3. Best engine ever. 20 mpg pulling a full load over the grapevine. I miss that truck. 🥲
