Definitely depends on where you are . Fresh or saltwater. Boat or land based would be next .Atlantic ocean, Chesapeake bay, Delaware Bay,trolling umbrella rigs and/ or mojo’s is highly productive.also live eels slay big stripers. Fishing from shore will depend on where , on rock jetties or on the beach. Live eels, clams or bunker chunks on a fishfinder rig for bait and wait style fishing or cast Plugs, bucktails, metals i.e. diamond jigs and poppers all will work well depending on conditions such as high / low tide, speed of currents , size of waves, wind speed and direction , daylight , darkness, moonlight, and always consider what forage is currently in vicinity.many variables, that’s what makes it so great, not to mention the size and strength of these beautiful fish. When the bite is on and they’re hungry they are very aggressive feeders.
I fished lower Potomac tidal water. I used a super spook black n chrome and a swim jig with a white skirt. Caught several small one on a white spinnerbait with a small white grub or swim shad

I agree with Saw1... I catch Stripers of the beach ( So Cal ) with Lucky Craft Pointer 115’s and in our lakes the will hit large swimbaits ( trout ), top water plugs, big glide baits and some folks even long line frozen anchovies...
Where are you catching stripers in SoCal? I used to surf fish Imperial Beach and also fish off the rocks over at the sub base in Point Loma. Never caught a striper nor I hear of anyone catching stripers down there. Didn't realize they get that far south? Surf pointer is a great lure, used to catch a halibut now and again down there, but never a striper.
